I’m not one to usually bother leaving poor reviews because I often get over an unfortunate interaction quickly. However, that is not the case with my experience with The Table. The unfortunate interaction happened last week and I am still very bothered by how everything unfolded. Forgive me in advance for a rather long account.
My husband and I made dinner reservations for Feb 4, the day of an ice storm. I wasn’t sure if the restaurant would be open even though it looked like the ice/snow would be done by the evening. I called the restaurant 3 times (no answer; message says “we are either busy with a customer or out of the kitchen,” nothing clear about being closed), checked their website and Facebook (they posted back on Jan 29 stating they’d be open even though there was snow that day leading me to believe they’d also post something on Feb 4 due to weather), and checked my email regularly as I made the reservation through email so perhaps they would’ve contacted me via that platform. But none of those mediums provided any info as to whether or not The Table was open.
We don’t live far from The Table and since 1) the roads weren’t terrible and 2) we had no reason to believe the restaurant would be closed, we drove there only to find that, indeed, they were closed. Fortunately, there was the Wildfire Grill across the street that was serving dinner so at least we were able to still go out to eat.
When we got home, I emailed The Table to tell them I was upset that nothing was done to inform their patrons they’d be closed, especially when I had made a reservation. Even though I was upset, the real reason why I’m leaving this review is due to the owner’s email response to me.
In my initial email, I told him I was upset to find the restaurant was not more proactive in communicating with their patrons that they were going to be closed. Here was his response (copy and pasted):
“I’m so sorry you made the trip and we weren’t there. We had every intention of opening today but after 4 hours of scraping ice from our drive way, there was just no way for us to get in. Our road still hasn’t been salted. Unfortunatly, I don’t have access to the reservation book remotely. I assumed that with the conditions of the roads, everyone would stay home this evening. Again I’m very sorry you made a decision to make the trip even after the phone was not answered after three atemps. If you feel it necessary to leave a bad review due to inclement weather that is out of our control, please feel free.”
What bothered me about this response was that he passively suggested it was our fault for choosing to come even though he “assumed everyone would stay home.” Additionally, him saying we made the trip “even after the phone was not answered after three attempts” made me feel like I was simply an idiot. Sure, he is entitled to his opinion, but as a business owner who should be ensuring his customers are well taken care of, I didn’t feel that was the case here at all. He took no responsibility and made no attempt to try and make it right by even offering to make us a new reservation.
I responded to his email saying that a bad review would not be made due to bad weather but to his lack of effort in not only communicating with his customers but also in not taking any responsibility in the matter. I also shared my disappointment in him not offering to make us a new reservation. I never received a response from him.
We were looking forward to going to The Table as we heard wonderful things about the food and atmosphere, but after being treated so poorly, I don’t feel comfortable giving him any of my business. I hope if there are any issues like this in the future, he is able to be more proactive in communicating about potential closings and caring for those in his community who wish to support his business. What a shame...
Read moreThe atmosphere of The Table is really inviting. Everything feels clean and put-together. There's a lot of seating, which is spaced out nicely for groups. However, our server seemed like they wanted to rush us for closing at 3:00 PM (they open again at 5:00 PM for dinner).
The food was alright. We got National Burgers and subbed veggie burgers for an extra dollar each. The server didn't know what they were made out of though, which was concerning because we're paying extra for something when we really didn't know how fresh it was going to be. We also shared Hawaiian poutine, which was expensive for being just a batch of fries with a little dressing and some cheese. The cocktails came in high ball glasses with strippers on them. I wasn't expecting that, so it kinda threw me off. Take it for what you will.
I'd recommend just checking the place out, but might not return myself, just because the price doesn't match...
Read moreI have had their hamburgers before and they are really good. My fam and I sat down and had dinner last night. Have to say "Yo" that was really fire!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I got ribeye with mashed potatoes and griiled squash, it was really really good. But wait the appetizers "truffle fries with asiago" was great without ketchup!!! My wife got bbq pork shank (cant remember the whole name) osso bucco apple and mashed potatoes. Hey I have to say those mashed potatoes were seriously flavorful. Potatoe game on smash. The ribeye was tender and well seasoned. Definitely will be going there again to eat. The desest i had was equally amazing something chocolate (super dense) with...
