Everything is always delicious at the North Plank Road Tavern. We’ve been going there for years and this weekend was their 46th anniversary. There were 3 menus available and we had a hard time choosing as everything looked wonderful!
We dined at the bar as we were in a casual mood, but we’ve sat in the charming dining room many times. The woodwork and history of the bar are so distinctive & intricate. Our bartender was witty and made us 2 different types of delicious margaritas. The discussions with the waitstaff & owner as they popped in and out of the bar area were pleasant and entertaining. The energy in this place is on point.
We had a prix fixe 3 course limited edition menu available through 4/5 but many of those items are available or have related regular menu items.
For our appetizers we chose escargot & muscles with a sweet sauce. Neither were traditional or what we expected but both were absolutely delicious! We were elated with the muscles. That sauce was delicious. We mopped it up with yummy bread. I could have drank it too though, but I didn’t, obviously.
For mains we chose steak and pork. We both had such great meals. Steak was perfectly cooked. Fries & green beans were delicious. Mosaic pork tenderloin roulade was also dreamy. Flavors were brilliant.
Dessert was our favorite part, even though it was all great! We chose NY style cheesecake which was a gorgeous stacked presentation. The basil strawberry sauce was incredible. The beignets were awesome. These come traditional style with powdered sugar despite the menu error with listing cinnamon. We prefer traditional. These were light, airy, & the best I’ve now had north of NOLA.
We can tell the owner, chef, & entire staff take pride in this restaurant. Their happiness of 46 years in business was beaming from everywhere within those...
Read moreWe had a group of 4 and decided to try this place for resturant week. We got there at around 8pm. I will say the place itself is beautiful but I will never go back. It took almost 45 mins before we got our drinks and bread for the table. We got there at 8pm and our first course for the resturant week did not come til almost 9pm. The server explained to us that they had to get people who came in after us put quick becuase they had tickets for the Newburgh symphony.
I got the soup for the resturant week menu and it was the worst. It was cold had no taste. I do not like to complain at resturant s because I don’t know if that’s how it is supposed to be and at that point we had been waiting so long and I was so hungry I just ate it. The second course was not much better. I got the tuna and it was ok nothing amazing. My wife got the pork belly and hers was undercooked and not edible. I wanted to send it back but my wife just wanted this dinner to be over with as we had been waiting so long for food so we just got it wrapped up. At this point it was almost 10pm we had got there at 8pm.
The final course was ok. I got the chocolate dish and it was nothing specia. My wife got the lemon choice and it was so sour she again could not eat it so we got it wrapped up to go. We just wanted to leave it was late.
I know we should have said something but it was not like the staff was rude it just seems they did not care about us. We won’t be stopping...
Read moreDelicious. The staff very friendly and polite. Such a charming place. My husband and I were visiting the area and I saw this place online. I didn't have a cocktail since I was driving but my husband had the special cocktail of the day which was and Apple Jack Martini. He said it was very tasty. There were some very interesting starters on the menu, but we decided just to have entrees, although I was really tempted to order some appetizers. I ordered the Sea Scallops with Risotto. It was divine. When I was done eating I actually took a piece of bread and mopped up any residue that was left on my plate. I never eat bread at restaurants. Never!!!!! That's how good it was. My husband ordered the Salmon. That's his go to meal when we eat out. The Salmon was cooked on a cedar plank and it came with mashed potatoes and some lovely French String Beans. So more sopping up the sauce with bread when he was done. But truthfully he always does that. The entrees were the perfect amount of food. So in a way I was glad I didn't order an appetizer, because something wouldn't have been finished, and that would have been a shame. Of course you can always bring the leftovers home, but since we live in a different state, well I didn't want to be carrying food everywhere.I was intrigued by the adult Root Beer Float that they offered for dessert. Maybe next time. And if we're ever in the area again I will definitely be...
