Overall I was pretty disappointed with the experience at this place. My wife and I went here for our anniversary dinner this year and we're very interested to see how it was. Let's start with the good things. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful. It has a great comfortable feel and is a pretty small, intimate setting. The only drawback to service that I would consider, which is relatively minor, is that despite asking if we were celebrating anything special on the reservation and me indicating that it was our anniversary, there was no mention of it made throughout the evening. Cocktails were not very good. There were a lot of complex items that we tried from their specialty cocktail menu and ultimately they just seemed overpriced and under-delivered on flavor. One example was a signature Manhattan drink that I think cost $18 yet is made with Jim Beam bourbon and really lacked on the the complexity and depth that I expect from a good Manhattan. One of the mezcal drinks that my wife ordered was almost medicinal and another drink was extremely sweet. I had the tartar as an appetizer which was the best thing I ate the entire night. Definitely would recommend. I had the scallops for my meal and while the scallops were great quality, I don't think that they were seared as well as they could have been. Some were under seasoned and the corn cream that they sat in was overly sweet. Additionally, the two pieces of lobster claw that are served with the dish were chewy, tough and did not have a fresh taste. My wife had one of the filet dishes and while the sauce was good and the steak was cooked very well, it still somehow lacked in flavor. Desserts were acceptable but nothing to write home about. Overall, I think this place has some work to do specifically on the food if they want to charge these prices, which I'm happy to pay, but expect my socks to be blown off. If I were to come here again (unlikely) I'd probably stick to getting beer or wine and trying some of...
Read moreMy husband and I ate at the Roosevelt Room last week and I haven’t stopped raving about it since! First off - the atmosphere is classy and relaxed. The unique design & decor are unlike any other restaurant in the capital district; warm, inviting with hints of Italy. The staff was superb from the host to the servers, the bar staff, the chefs and the owner. They were attentive and knowledgeable of the food giving great recommendations. Watching the chefs work in the kitchen was like watching a fine tuned orchestra. Truly a pleasure to watch them in their craft. We are big “foodie” people and came with high expectations after reviewing the menu online. I can genuinely say they blew us away! You will not find a menu like this ANYWHERE else I promise. They use fresh high quality products and cook it to perfection. We couldn’t find a single thing that could be improved upon. Each table gets a fresh loaf of bread which in itself was delicious but I held back after 1 piece to save room. For appetizers we ordered the Red & Gold beet salad and the Spanish octopus. The owner was kind enough to send us the steak (filet mignon) tartar as well as cucumber carpaccio. The salad has a delicious dressing and the perfect mix to balance out the flavors, the octopus was tender and packed with flavor, the tartar was so chewy and delicious with the perfect sauces to compliment the flavors and the cucumber carpaccio has such a unique taste I couldn’t stop going back for another taste. For our meals we both ordered the filet dinner - mine medium well, his medium. The cook was spot on for each, the potato fondant paired perfectly with the pearl onions but the sauce… the sauce had magic! I used what was left of our bread to soak it all up! The dessert menu had delicious options but unfortunately we were too full. Overall the Roosevelt Room is hands down the best place to eat in the capital district right now. We are hooked and will now be regulars. You...
Read moreI absolutely adore it here ! Hands down one of the best dining experiences in the Capital Region - note it is truly an “experience”, not just a restaurant.
Ambiance is perfect - intimate, open space that is so nicely decorated (esp right now for the holidays), dimmed lights, tasteful music playing. Decor is high end yet welcoming so you don’t feel like you have to be so formal like some other fine dining places in the area.
Cocktail (and mocktail) list is fabulous and creative. Every time you come, you are started with a complimentary bite sized appetizer of chefs choice (aka amuse bouche - NO one else does this around here!!! Such a lovely touch for a foodie). At this point I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and it’s all to die for. Rotating daily specials always sound amazing and if you visit their FB/IG pages, you can usually get a preview picture. Their new pastry chef is my new crush bc every dessert she makes is seriously unbelievable.
My personal favs: Spanish chopped salad, wagyu bikini sandwiches, roasted bone marrow. Scallops, halibut, chicken Francese. And omfg every dessert - but notably, the chocolate cake & olive oil cake.
Let’s all throw a party bc they are now doing HAPPY HOUR from 4 to 6 at the bar 🥳 I just went the other day and there are some amazing, reasonably priced specials here (menu attached). I have yet to try their new 5-course tasting menu but that is next on the list!
Seriously do yourself a favor and come here for your next dining experience. Yes, it is a little pricier than the chain restaurant you love up the road, but the service & experience you get speaks volumes and I promise, it is worth every penny. So go...
