Sweet Temptation Desserts — Restaurant in Town of North Hempstead

Neighborhood bakery offering a selection of cakes and pastries, but the customer service is significantly lacking. This bakery came highly recommended, but this will be my first and last time working with them due to their customer service. It is unclear who exactly is in charge here. I placed my order with Luis, who said I should call and confirm with Jennifer (she’s very hard to reach and will blame you if you cannot get in contact with her). I called Jennifer’s number the next day to make sure my order is officially placed with my specifications, making one tweak to the order I placed with Luis (which wasn’t confirmed yet anyway), regarding cupcake filling. Jennifer was unavailable, but Jessica, her cousin who also runs the business (or doesn’t— who knows because it’s a mystery who runs the place), took down and confirmed my order. The day I picked up my order, I found out that it had been done wrong (apparently Luis did take down my order the first time even though it was presented as unconfirmed to me). The error with the filling was frustrating, but I would not have written this review were it not for the shocking and appalling response by Jennifer, who was only reachable in the end when Luis called her from the bakery himself once the damage had already been done. When I politely tried to explain the error that the bakery made, I was surprised to be met with a rude, interrupting, hostile, and unapologetic “manager”. I was hoping to be told: (1) I’m sorry there was a miscommunication, and (2) here is what we can do. [It’s worth mentioning that if they were confused about my order, someone could have called me to clarify.] Instead, I was met with: (1) You never spoke to me (because she was unreachable, and in any event, I wasn’t aware that speaking with the manager is the only way to confirm my order rather than speaking with a competent member of her staff); (2) We made the order according to your original specifications, ignoring the fact that I made a slight change regarding the cupcake filling with the staff member who confirmed my order; (3) I don’t know what you want me to do. If Jennifer was my only experience here, this would have been a 1 star review. Luis’s kinder demeanor helped the situation a bit. I still paid full price for the order and was not compensated in any way for their mistake, hence why I will not...

The best bakery! This is a very special bakery. You not only can get excellent muffins, cakes, breads and desserts here but the baker, who is so sweet, will also make things custom to satisfy special dietary needs. For example, he will make traditional desserts lactose-free if I provide lactose-free sour cream or lactose-free milk or lactose-free butter. (All of these items are available in a good supermarket, but most bakeries will not accommodate you in this way.) I met a woman in the bakery who was picking up a fantastic dinosaur-themed birthday cake made for her son. It was decorated beautifully! As we were talking, she told me that she provided most of the ingredients herself because her son was allergic to something that she substituted. Also, she wanted certain "organic only" ingredients.

This bakery is a little hidden gem in Great Neck located pretty far north but it's worth taking a visit. The reviewer who says the baked goods are "tasteless" must not have come here. Luis knows how to make lemon curd squares, outstanding dairy-free daquoise cake that you will swear is cream, meringues, pound cakes, muffins that are the perfect crunch on top and the perfect soft on the inside... It's delicious, and nothing is bad here. Plus he makes a lot of parve items so if you're lactose intolerant or keep kosher he's got a wide variety. Don't let the "kitschy" decor fool you.
