UPDATE 10/13/24: We recently had dinner here again with friends ONLY because they like this restaurant and it's a convenient location for them, so we decided to give this place another chance after a not so good dinner here six months ago. The restaurant was only about half full at 5:30 when we arrived on a recent Saturday. We were seated immediately and given menus. Our group ordered beer batter fish fry, a turkey cheddar wrap, and chicken parmesan. It took roughly 25 minutes for our food to be served but our food was hot enough to eat. The fish frys were tasty but soggy and not at all crispy. The turkey cheddar wrap was OK but nothing outstanding. The chicken parmesan was (again) tough and so overcooked that it was difficult to cut it with a knife, and that's no exaggeration. Apparently they STILL cannot cook chicken parmesan without overcooking it. After taking just two bites, that plate went back to the kitchen and a turkey dinner was ordered to replace it. That dinner was served up roughly 20 minutes later and it was served mostly hot. There were three very thin slices of turkey covered in gravy on top of a large pile of stuffing. The amount of food served was filling, but the turkey tasted like bland deli turkey, while the stuffing had a good but heavily seasoned taste. Not what you hope for in a meal like that. Four meals totaled a bit over $63 plus tax. As someone in our group said, the food we ate here was "nothing to write home about". Well said. The only redeeming thing about our dinner here was the service. Our young server (I didn't get her name) was friendly, efficient, and very accommodating throughout our dinner, so our thanks to her. The current prices here aren't outrageous if you don't mind mediocre food not prepared properly and limited dinner choices. After yet another less than memorable dinner here, we've finally learned our lesson and will definitely not be back again. Thanks for reading!
April 2024: We've eaten at Slayton Place a number of times, and the food and service have been mostly OK but nothing truly outstanding. Unlike some other restaurants in the area, their menu here has a somewhat limited number of offerings, so you'd expect that what they do offer would be very good. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case recently. Our dinner order consisted of a fish fry and chicken parmesan. The fish fry for $16.00 was good, although a little on the smaller side. However, the chicken parmesan was so overcooked and so tough that much of it couldn't be cut with a dinner knife, so it went back to the kitchen and was removed from our bill. And, yes, I've made chicken parmesan from scratch more than once so I know what it takes to cook it properly. The only thing that truly stood out during our meal was the service we received from our server Bill. He was excellent and apologized repeatedly for the bad chicken parmesan, although it's not his fault that the people in the kitchen can't do a good job with a dish like that. Truly outstanding service, and the best service we've ever received here. Sadly, that's probably not enough to make us visit this restaurant again. Thanks...
Read moreHad breakfast there this morning, I ordered a cheese omelette with home fries and sour dough toast, the omelette was like a plate of scrambled eggs with a slice of American cheese on top, in the middle of the eggs and a very small piece of cheese inside the omelette under that, I had to fold all the eggs around the cheese to make it resemble a real omelette, The toast had a good amount of unmelted margarine on it, not butter. I also had home fries which I gave to my husband, he could not eat them or his hash browns, stating they tasted like they were cooked on the same side of the grill where the burger and everything else was fried. His breakfast was about the same as mine in quantity. The coffee was strong and needed a lot of cream and sugar. I rated it a two because some of the food other customers were getting, like pancakes and lunch dishes, looked better than what we got, and the price...
Read moreFirst time going there. The two of us were seated promptly although the bench seat was worn out and you could literally feal the springs and framing sticking through the cushion. Waitress was quick to take our drink order and return. As it was our first ( and last) time going we asked for a couple minutes to look at the menu. About ten minutes later she returned only to tell us that they were out of our selection, so we asked for a few more minutes. At the 15 minute mark we decided to pay for our drinks and leave. So in a nutshell in the span of 25 minutes we were able to get two pepsi's. If you're out of something maybe you should let it be known up front, and maybe since we were two of maybe six people in the place, a bit more attention to the customers might be in order. Probably a great place if you're one of the regulars, but we won't...
