Cakes by Karen — Restaurant in Town of Ogden

Absolutely disgusted by the customer service and product put out by this bakery. When ordering I spoke with Karen and told her what we wanted for my daughters birthday. A simple wink face 9 inch cake with raspberry filling and a dozen chocolate poop emoji cupcakes. The cake appearance was so unprofessionally done. The fondant was wrinkled and had holes in it. The fondant eyes had been pieced together. I had told her I didn't want the happy birthday message written on the cake and she told me she would write it on the plate...guess what she wrote it ON the cake! The cake itself tasted like it was frozen, there was hardly any raspberry filling and the misporportioned bow wasn't even pasted on the cake and fell off while trying to take the cake out of the box. As for the cupcakes...the frosting had so many air bubbles in them and the cupcake itself was so dense. We ended up throwing away the cake and cupcakes because no one liked it or would eat them! A complete waste of $85!!! And yes these issues were brought to Karen's attention when they were being picked up and it was stated there was NO WAY they could fix them and I "couldn't get a refund" because I already paid for them in advance. So basically I feel like she said "screw you". I would say if even kids wouldn't eat the cake or cupcakes there is something majorly wrong, because my daughter and her friends had no problems pounding down the cupcakes I bought for her class from Walmart! At least Walmart and wegmans make great products and if you're not satisfied they take care of you! I expected excellence and instead got an unprofessional beginner job done. Definitely not worth the money...

We've ordered SEVERAL cakes and cupcakes from here over the last few years (weddings, birthdays, referrals etc). We had a great experience at first, but as time went on, orders were wrong, not done on time, and/or designs didn't meet expectations. When we tried to have a conversation with CBK about how we had been disappointed with the last couple of orders, we were told she didn't want to deal with customers that were unhappy, and asked us not to order from her anymore. Pretty sad considering we thought we had developed a relationship with a local baker that we could count on. She's lost her touch now that the business has gone to the next level. Go...

Cakes by Karen was recommended to us for our wedding cake and cupcakes. We're SO happy she was. We went and got samples to taste test,( during covid things were weird). She was the first, last and only bakery we went to. There was no reason to look any further. We got a strawberry cake with strawberry filling and 2 dozen cupcakes, one dozen marble with chocolate Bavarian cream filling and one dozen Lemon with raspberry filling. It was difficult to choose flavors because they were all delicious. I have and will recommend Karen to everyone! Everyone at our wedding raved about our cake and cupcakes.
