I went to Asian Moon on 7/12 with my boyfriend. This place puts the 'experience' in dining EXPERIENCE. We decided to sit at the sushi bar and do Omakase. We were omakase virgins.. and if you wanna have a good first time, do it here ;-P. We had Sam the chef cooking for us. He was a knowledgeable professional but still fun and lighthearted. We started with a pureed fish with caviar served with toast and seafood ceviche as appetizers. It wasn't all completely my taste but that is bound to happen with some dishes during omasake.. a risk you will have to take. In between dishes, he gave us shots.. one of which was Yamazaki and he told us the fun history of the pricey whiskey. Drinking and history lesson? Yes please! Then we moved on to the main show, the sushi. He brings out his big wooden box of seafood and cuts your pieces fresh off. He gave us fatty toro, tuna, the works. He explains where the fish is primarily found, how much it's sold for, how it's prepared, how to eat it, etc. Most pieces were raw, others were given a singe to draw the fat out. It was a show as much as it was a meal. Everything exquisite. It seems weird to say the fish melted in my mouth, but it DID, in the best way possible. He really lets the freshness of the fish speak for itself and adds only a touch of freshly prepared wasabi, soy sauce or sea urchin. He lets you have soy sauce on the table but warns you not to overuse. I usually completely bathe my sushi in soy sauce (don't judge me, that's how I like it) but for these guys, there's no need or even desire to do so. We finished off with wagyu steak.. seared just a bit on one side and even less on the other side, cradled in seaweed and topped with sea urchin. Tasted like a crazy upscale Philly cheese steak!! Sounds a bit odd, but totally awesome. I would go if I were you. My boyfriend and I agreed we felt like Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation. We both felt mentally transported. Go, do yourself a favor and just go.

These are the recurring complaints, especially when people compare current experiences to past ones: 1. Portion size / value for price Many reviews suggest that prices are high relative to what is received. Portions are sometimes smaller than they used to be. 2. Flavor & consistency problems • Underseasoned dishes: people say that flavor is more bland than before. For example, pork or chicken dishes don’t hit as much in terms of spice or sauce. • Sushi quality (not across the board) has been criticized: some find fish less fresh, or rolls “skimped” (in terms of filling, sauce, etc.). • Some classic dishes (crisp-iness, texture) are no longer up to the same standard: e.g. crispy duck not crispy, or meat / seafood being mushy or over-cooked. 3. Increased pricing, less return Several reviews mention that the cost is going up, but the “exciting” aspects (taste, quantity, consistency) seem to be slipping. Especially for sushi or specialty rolls. 4. Take-out / delivery discrepancy Some people say that takeout orders are less satisfying than dine-in: flavors don’t travel as well, textures degrade, sometimes missing items or significant differences. 5. Attention to detail There are complaints about small touches being neglected: sauces being skimpy, garnishes minimal, or the balance between ingredients off.

Tucked inside this strip of businesses is the upscale Asian Moon restaurant in Massapequa. The decor is calming and feels culturally authentic and celebratory. When you walk in, you feel immediately something good is going on in here. And indeed it is a delicious meal being prepared for you! The menu offers a delightful selection of Asian cuisine as well as a comprehensive sushi menu. We ordered the American Dream Sushi Roll. A shrimp Tempura Roll with Kani Salad on Top, Served with Mango Puree, and it was packed with flavor. The tempura gave it just the right amount of crunch. The stir-fried jasmine rice with broccoli was fragrant and fluffy. And the General Tso's Chicken had chunks of crispy white meat chicken in a tasty spicy sauce. We all enjoyed a wonderful evening and meal sitting in big comfy booth!

Unfortunately my most recent visit was mediocre at best. We were told 20min wait, 50min later we sat down. It was a busy Saturday night, but just be honest about the wait time! Husband ordered 3 sushi rolls, the basic tuna/Kani were super tiny and covered in tons of rice to appear larger. The veggie fried rice portion was a fairly tiny portion for price & the appretizers tasted like frozen spring rolls, mushy insight and certainly not fresh, dumplings were tiny and portion small. Service was weak. They were super busy and I appreciate the hustle of the staff, but We were stuck in a corner, right near the kitchen and we barely saw our waiter once food was dropped. Also, while we appreciate not waiting super long for the food, it came out so fast that it was clear nothing was made to order. I loved this place when they first opened, but the quality has significantly declined and I just couldn’t get past the price for the quality. Disappointing...
