Family Bagel…when you are here, you are Family!
Ya know, at least once a week I drive into Plainview to to my favorite bagel 🥯 and sandwich 🥪 shop, and while I have written reviews for so many restaurants I visit, I have never taken the time to write about Family Bagel 🥯 even thought it’s close to my heart. Shame on me!
So, here I wanna set the record straight. Family Bagel is so much more than just a great bagel 🥯 shop. It is a community icon that gives so much to its patrons and the town they call home.
It is truly a family business! And I am proud to a be loyal customer for over 20 years. When you become a regular, you get to know the Schatt family and you are welcomed each time you enter the door ( kinda like Norm entering the bar at Cheers!). You get to know them, and they get to know you! It’s what a real local business is all about!
At Family Bagel, 🥯, they’re always trying something new, something that makes them stand out from all the other bagel 🥯 stores in the area and around Long Island. Whether it’s rainbow 🌈 bagels 🥯, pretzel 🥨 bagels, Lo-Carb bagels 🥯 and flagels, black and white bagels. 🥯 (… the list goes on and on) or the fantastic homemade salads 🥗 , cream cheeses 🧀 , soups 🥣 , breakfast 🍳 sandwiches 🥪, the extensive selection of hot 🥵 and cold 🥶 flavored coffees ☕️, or the delicious bakery items, you will find your passion to satisfy your hunger. My favorite is the Philly Cheese 🧀 steak 🥩! It’s huge, flavorful, and so damn good! 🥖
Family bagel gives back in big ways. They support local charities, sports 🏀 teams, high school 🏫 involvement endeavor, and so much more. It is why they have been awarded business of the year from the community.
As they go, they grow! Expanding their reach with their new Family Bagel Food truck ready to bring the party to you wherever your destination needs. I can only imagine the party possibilities.
I highly recommend Family Bagel to those looking for quality food with a personal touch. Go introduce yourself to Neal, Roe, & Michael Schatt and the entire staff and you’ll quickly understand what Family is all about. Go treat yourself.
I think their slogan says it best… “Come in a Stranger, Leave as...
Read moreWent here this morning for a Bacon Egg and Cheese with pepper, ketchup, and extra cheese. The sandwich did taste okay but seemed lacking. For 7.71, it looked like only one egg and only one slice of cheese, and they charged 1.55 for extra cheese, which never showed up.
I ordered my wife a plain bagel with butter 2.95. She said it was alright and has had better elsewhere.
I also noticed they carried Morrison Pastry Muffins that are made locally in Maspeth, NY. I had never seen a Jelly Donut Muffin, so I wanted to try it. I have purchased these muffins at other locations for 2.50 to 3.25 a muffin. They charged 4.13 for theirs. The muffin was delicious.
The atmosphere seemed very dedicated to local people who come for breakfast and lunch items. It had a nice family and nice people vibes. I was just disappointed and didn't get a chance to complain because my mother-in-law was at a doctors office, and the scheduler failed to put her on the schedule, so I had to go.
If you charge, they charge a 3.5% fee, which I understand pass the costs on to the customer. It just plays with people's minds psychologically. So I got a 55-cent discount for paying with cash. So a sandwich, buttered bagel, and a muffin came to 16.80.
A place that I go to in East Meadow, the same exact order would run...
Read moreI have been to this place several times being that I worked right there and they served tofu cream cheese. The one thing I can’t stand is the price changes. I started going back on Sundays as it was on the way to the city for me any way long story short. When I was rung up I paid$3 and change. On another day a young man rung me up and asked Neil the owner how much and he said something to him that I didn’t hear and the price was right under $5. I found two places close to Plainview that offer tofu cream cheese. Bagel master in Syosset it is good but the best is village bagels in Syosset bi don’t support unfair businesses and Neil stinks as an owner. He is nasty. One time a customer had money on the books so he would order and leave. He must of ran out and Neil embarrassed him in the store the customer came to the bank and Neil after him begging him to forgive him and the customer was like you didn’t have to say that you know I am good for it. So yea why support nasty people. I would never step in...
