As far as Long Island is concerned, there actually are not too many bubble tea shops. The few that are scattered around are attached to well known brands you would normally find in Queens or Manhattan. When I had first heard about YAAAS, I was very intrigued as it is a small business competing for market share in an industry that is in itself very competitive. The number of bubble tea or boba shops in NY are quite vast and customers are are notorious for showing favoritism toward the more well known brands.
The store itself is located in Farmingdale which is a very nice area. On the particular night I decided to visit, it happened to be raining very bad. My gps was giving funny directions and I ended up driving past the location twice. The tea shop is located right next to an Asian themed restaurant and on a nice day they utilize the spacious outdoor area. The interior of this establishment is quiet spacious and I almost forgot it was a bubble tea shop. At the time of my visit, there was no indoor seating. Even though it was raining there were quite a few customers visiting and picking up their orders.
They have a nice efficient process for ordering and paying. Using a touch screen, you browse the menu, submit your order and then pay right there using a debit or credit card. A printed receipt is provided for you and your order is sent to the staff behind the counter. They offer quite an assortment of drink flavors that are milk and fruit based as well some some home made desserts. The drink that caught my attention was the Ovaltine flavor (something nostalgic) and the Bobo Chiffon cake because it was covered with delicious boba pearls and brown sugar.
All the orders were made in a very timely manner (not that I was in any particular hurry) for each customer that ordered while I was inside there. For my visit there were two nice employees behind the counter working very diligently, Pearl and Brenda. (The only reason I know the employee names is because the owner was kind enough to introduce me).
Before I left, the owner Kelly appeared from the back to ask me how my experience was. I was very surprised as it is not very often I able to meet the actual business owner of any establishment. She was very pleasant and quite energetic when speaking about the business. They showed me how they make one of their orange fruit based drinks and the ingredients were all natural and fresh. It turns out they have been in that location for at least a few years.
Woman owned and minority business (especially Asian) in this day and age is still very difficult due to the way society perceives certain things. But they still here and they seem to be doing very well! They opened a second location in Melville very recently that I have not had the opportunity to visit. The opportunity to chat with the owner of any business and getting to know the staff is quite a privilege.
I am very glad to be able to help support small businesses and hope that reviews like these offer some type of positive encouragement to the hardworking staff who toil day in and day out to take care of their customers.
I am trying to plan another visit so I can try out the Inter...
Read moreI learned about YAAAS Tea Farmingdale only recently through the HAFSAA website. Very clean and nice-looking store. The lady at the front counter was helpful and knowledgeable. On my first visit, I tried their dark chocolate milk tea and the texture was super smooth and creamy, and i could definitely tell the bobba was fresh. They claim fresh bobba every hour and it tasted true to that.
Food wise so far I've tried the egg & cheese craffle and the banana Nutella craffle. Both were yummy with the right amount of crisp and softness. The only thing is if you're getting the egg & cheese as a savory sandwich, it still has a bit of sweetness to it with what appeared to be a sugary glaze. So, keep that in mind. But I liked the small menu. I'm all for...Do few items but do them good.
Some Feedback: Considering how clean, organized, and well put together that store is. I was a little surprised that they hadn't updated their Google page menu. Their website is updated but not the Google page. Seeing the google menu I had intended to try the cream puff and the Ovaltine bobba but both were discontinued. Although I doubt that it could beat the dark chocolate bobba i had. So, yummy.
Also, I genuinely appreciate the proper halal certification and it definitely gives peace of mind with non-meat ingredients as well like gelatin etc. However, I hope they'll go the extra step and source certified halal chicken from the likes of Hal&al etc. for the Asian panini sandwich and serve a halal one rather than omitting it from the menu to comply. I'd love to try that sandwich!
Last feedback, they open early in the morning at 7 a.m. which is awesome, but I was a little surprised that they start offering the regular bobba topping only after 9:30 a.m. I hope they can figure out a way to have the bobba available at all times.
To sum it up...Bobba market is super competitive and in addition to the regular ones like Kungfu, Gong Cha, CoCo etc. i've been to the more sort of higher end Xing Fu Tang, Molly Tea, TeaPulse etc. as well and I'd say YAAAS is up there in quality and it has enough going for it that distinguishes it enough to carve out a place in the super competitive market. Also, they have a Starbucks across the street. I can't have much caffeine so didn't try the latte, but assuming their lattes have the same smooth texture as the milk tea. I'd take YAAAS over Starbucks for the coffee. Besides, I'd rather support a local business than...
