Terrible service and wait time. Food is great but will not return due to poor service. When we entered we were greeted by a very frazzled hostess. When greeted she asked how many and we stated 2 and a baby she replied “ So 3 then” then told us it would be 40 minutes and said “do you want to wait” already off to bad start with her attitude. We had no problem waiting and went back to our car where we waited only about 20 minutes. We then were seated right next to the door with a baby. It is the middle of winter and cold air was blowing on us the whole time now i understand, its busy and you can’t pick and choose seats but to seat a couple with a baby next to such a busy area was a poor decision. At one point I just took my son out of the high chair and held him because it was so cold and such a dangerous area to have a high chair an older gentleman tripped over it and almost went flying. Now to the wait time, we had a lovely waitress and had our order and drinks after only 5 minutes. We received our appetizer very quickly and were relieved things were getting better. Now if you have children you know time is a luxury and you dont have all night to sit and wait which is why we chose a DINER where food is usually relatively fast. Wrong. We waited 40 additional minutes after our appetizer for our main course. The waitress only came over once during the whole wait and said “ Oh you guys are still waiting” then came back out and proceeded to explain “ it’s just your burger is taking longer than usual” A burger is taking long at a diner??? I ordered a much more complicated meal than my husband but the burger was holding it up… great. Burger finally comes and it’s on a bun that looks like a regular potato bread bun you buy at Shop Rite. At this point we’d been there over an hour our child was losing his patience so we decided to box up our food and get the check as soon as they brought the food out. Once we had the check out waitress once again nowhere to be found ( not blaming her she definitely had a few tables and she was the nicest to us there ) but it’s just the lack is compassion and common sense on how to handle guests with children. Really disappointed as the food is good but not worth the wait and lack of...
Read moreWhiskey Down Diner in Farmingdale, New York, captures the essence of a retro-chic diner with its delightful ambiance and equally impressive menu. The interior throws you back to a simpler time with its nostalgic decor, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements the dining experience.
The food here is not only delicious but also offers great value. We opted for the Chicken Caesar Sandwich and the Gyro. While the gyro was good and met expectations, it was the Chicken Caesar Sandwich that truly stood out. The sandwich was packed with flavor, though it could have done with a bit more sauce to perfect the balance of ingredients. Despite this minor detail, it was a spectacular choice that I would happily order again. Pair either with one of their espresso martinis, and you'll be in for a treat.
The staff at Whiskey Down Diner add to the overall positive experience with their friendly and inviting demeanor. They make you feel welcome right from the moment you step in, enhancing the meal with their attentive service.
I would definitely recommend Whiskey Down Diner to anyone in the area or passing through Farmingdale. It’s a charming spot that hits the mark on both ambiance and flavor, making it well worth a return visit. Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast or a satisfying lunch, this diner has you covered with style...
Read moreI've been here a few times over the years and I always felt the food was pretty good but nothing spectacular. They get very busy on weekends and it's common to have to wait 45 minutes for a table when they're busy. It's so busy I'd honestly avoid coming here on weekends if you want to retain your sanity. In my experience, the service takes a little dip when they're packed but I imagine that's an issue experienced by all restaurants. Recently though, I went on a weekday morning after a 2 year hiatus from this place and we were seated right away. Because they weren't busy, the service was definitely better than I remembered. On top of their normal menu, they always have a seasonal menu and I ordered some sort of spicy steak sandwich on the seasonal menu. Easily THE best thing I've ever eaten at this diner. The steak in the sandwich was so juicy and the portions were definitely up to my artery clogging standards. The prices were honestly not too bad either given that the diners in Queens and Nassau are definitely not far off in price. Our server was incredibly friendly too which helped the experience. Honestly, I might have to start coming back more often, especially since I want to try those cinnamon pancakes before they take them off the menu. There's also a parking lot directly behind the diner which is kinda...
