I would like to start by expressing our appreciation for the food here. We discovered this restaurant on a whim one evening and have since become quite enamored with it. We particularly enjoy the dip and ensure we order it every time we visit. However, on our last two visits, we have noticed that the dip has been excessively watery.
During our first experience with this issue, while dining in, we informed our server, who assured us they would address it with the kitchen. They returned with a bowl of thick cheese dip, which we mixed with the original dip, resulting in a perfect consistency reminiscent of our previous visits.
On our most recent visit, we opted for takeout. As soon as we reached the car, we were eager to enjoy our meal, only to find the dip was once again excessively watery—this time even worse than before. Despite my reluctance to complain, I felt it necessary to notify the staff so they could rectify the issue, as the dip was not solid enough for dipping chips.
When I approached the hostess stand to explain the situation, the staff member informed me that the consistency was due to the juices from the steak and chicken, combined with the heat, and that there was nothing she could do. Not wishing to create a confrontation, I accepted the situation and left.
We have a lengthy drive home from North Greece, so I hoped that by the time we arrived, the dip would have cooled down and thickened. Unfortunately, upon our arrival, while it had cooled, it remained too watery from the journey, resulting in it spilling into the bag. It was still inedible as a dip, and the only way we could consume it would have been with a spoon, resembling soup.
The entrées were exceptional, as they consistently are. The birria pizza is outstanding, and the street tacos are equally delightful. We have thoroughly enjoyed both the chicken and steak varieties. Additionally, the rice is my absolute favorite, and the generous portion size is commendable. For the children, the chicken tenders and fries are a...
Read moreI’m going to base my review against their main competition, Monte Alben. I ordered the chimichanga with chicken, along with a side of guacamole. My order was being packaged when I got there so the time from order to pickup was roughly 10 minutes. My entree was packaged in a basic aluminum circle container with a clear plastic cover. This is my first negative, as any sauce that goes on chimichanga gets lost since everything can mix together. Their competition uses a nice divided container with a perforated lid that easily comes off. As for my entree itself it was a decent temp. from my short ride home. The dish contained my chimichanga which was cut in half to fit in the circle, some salad lettuce (?), a large portion of warm sour cream covering up the refried beans, two random slices of tomatoes and some Mexican rice. My two main issues with this was that whatever cheese they used on top of the chimichanga had a film over it like it wasn’t great quality, and the second was that the main ingredient, shredded chicken, was very dry, which was disappointing. Their competitor has always had a great cheese sauce that never hardens and chicken that’s always moist and well seasoned. The sour cream, beans and rice were all just fine, and I didn’t eat the lettuce or tomatoes. Their guacamole was nice and chunky, and the salsa was cold and tasted fresh, though not chunky.
It was a shame to see them empty on Sunday at dinner time, but I will say this location is hard unless you’re going to Walmart or know that a restaurant is there.
I will try them again and definitely wouldn’t shy anyone away from giving them a try. They have other locations so they can’t be that bad! I’ll chalk this up to...
Read moreToday I ordered take out from Mecate Mexican Restaurant & Bar in Webster for the first time. If I were going to leave a one word review, it would be "Wow!" Starting with the basics; The restaurant is clean, bright, well staffed, easy to get to from two directions on a service road between Empire blvd, and the Walmart business area, has plenty of free parking, and an outdoor seating area on the grass too. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the hostess, who took my to go order. After only a short wait, ten minutes at the very most, she brought out my food, and when I took the bag from her hand, I thought I was given the wrong to go order. Why you ask?, because the bag felt like it weighed a couple pounds! This restaurant knows nachos, and these are the best Iv'e had of their type here in Rochester. There have been others that were very good and might be called more gourmet, or customizable when it comes to the main protein. However, as far as value for the money, and great taste without being too salty, no one else comes close. As you can see from the pictures, the toppings of beef, chicken, lettuce, cheese, beans, sour cream, and fresh guac are almost two inches thick!. I was also pleasantly surprised to find bag of fresh, unsalted chips with a larger cup of salsa in the bag as well. The toppings are on some chips in the container, but smartly they give you the rest of the chips separately so they don't get soggy on the way home. With the cost of running a restaurant these days, I don't know how Mecate does it, especially if their other dishes are even close in portion size. Although I am a bit of a nacho addict, I look forward to exploring the rest...
