Penfield Pub — Restaurant in Town of Penfield

My family and I frequent the Pub and we always have a great experience. Last night was no exception (other than the completely oblivious Tesla owner who's alarm kept going off every 5 minutes obviously outside of anyone's control 🤣) I'd like to spotlight one of your incredible employees. I'm so upset I can't remember their name, as they've served us before and are always so wonderful. Curly blonde hair, kind and radiates curiosity and humility. My husband and I were watching the fireworks on the patio while our kids played over by the tree. A child similar in age to my kids approached them for help as they were lost and had no phone. The kids brought them over to the Patio. Without hesitation our server overheard the situation and jumped in offering their phone so they could call their parent/guardian. After overhearing an intense conversation with the child and their father, this server sensed their distress and offered to walk with them to the intersection where their parent told them to go. I walked in to the restaurant a bit later to use the restroom and overheard the other staff members concerned and discussing the whereabouts of their team member. Genuine concern and understanding after they learned the situation. The fact that this server felt comfortable enough to just up and help a patron speaks to not only her character, but this establishments leadership shadow and this incredible team. Tonight my children learned a lesson in kindness and humanity through the actions of this server, and my heart is full 💓 Thank you again and keep shining...

I used to go to Don's multiple times a month, and was there enough to be friendly with the owners. Now that I don't live in the area, I haven't been in a couple years. The pub area looks pretty much the same, although the tables are nicer than they used to be. It was very clean. The food, however, has gone WAY down hill. I'm embarrassed that I brought a friend who had never been. I ordered a burger because in the past the burgers in the pub were always a half pound, and nice and thick. They were well worth the price. Not anymore, apparently. The burger I received was thinner than a McDonald's hamburger! It cost me $14.95 for a burger that was paper thin! I appreciated that I could get a gluten-free bun which tastwd fine, but the burger was not good. My friend ordered a turkey panini and there was 2 slices of deli turkey on it (no exaggeration). Her sandwich was so thin. I was so embarrassed that I had raved about the food before we arrived. Her sandwich cost about the same as my burger. I know times are tight for everyone, but Don's, you need to do better! $14.95 for a burger that should be sold on your fast food side for a fraction of what I paid is ridiculous, and frankly is a complete rip-off. $3.95 for an iced tea also seems a bit steep, but I'm assuming it's free refills (I didn't get any so I'm not sure). Friendly staff, clean surroundings, but completely over-priced. I won't be returning on my next visit which is sad bc Don's has been a family favorite for many years. We went here today because they did a fundraiser with the Penfield Girls Swim team. This location is always helping out in this way. I have been here for fund raising breakfasts as well…

Today’s fund raiser was Big Plates (garbage plates). They were donating 3 dollars for every plate sold today.

For those of you have not been here it’s converted over from a Dons Original / Pub combo and set up the same. In one door is counter service similar to Dons Bill Grays etc. and in the other door is a pub style bar type area.

I have not been to the bar area but I’d stop in if I was in the area. And I think I saw a sign that said beer and a burger 10 bucks M-F 12-3. The details maybe off so don’t quote me but that would be a good place to meet a buddy for lunch.

The plates were very good. The meat sauce will make or break a plate and theirs is very very good. The burger patties are not the tiny patties you get at some places. They were large and good quality. I always cover my mac salad with meat sauce so I can only comment the combo was great. Fries and home fries were as expected.

We took the plates home and I split one with my daughter. We were both full. If I ate the whole thing myself I’d have been on the couch. My wife and daughter got one each. My wife has yet to eat hers but my daughter ate 1.5 burgers and about half the rest of the plate. All that swimming makes her hungry!
