While looking for a new go-to Indian restaurant, I came across Tandoor of India in Fairport, New York. First, it is hard to find. The Google Maps pin wasn't useful until I realized the restaurant is inside and indoor atrium in the mall. Having never been there before, all the stores appear to have their fronts facing the parking lot. I drove around back. Just go to the middle of the shopping plaza and walk into the glass atrium; the restaurant is inside. Second, the place was empty. And I mean empty. my table was the only occupied table in the entire restaurant. If my previous favorite Indian restaurant hadn't been the same way, I probably would have turned around and left out of worry that everyone knew something I didn't. So, keep looking for the place and don't worry if you're the only person in the restaurant, because the food is quite good, and there is plenty to go around. The goat korma and chana masala were very good, but the standout was a paneer dish that was very different from those I had in the past. Made with less spinach and a yellow cream sauce, this paneer dish was a standout favorite. Now that I know where Tandoor of India is, I will definitely make a...
Read moreWe visited this place after checking its rating which was good but surprisingly they disappointed us in terms of quality of food and service. We went on sunday noon and it was not a busy day at restaurant, we opted for buffet which had good number of dishes available but taste was missing. If you are a fan of traditional south Indian dishes then for sure this place is not for you. everything had little extra spices and oil. There was no service on the table, glasses were filled once in the beginning which were never re-filled. They got a Naan even before we started appetizer and once it was over, we waited for 10 minutes and then asked someone to get it. They never cleared the dishes after snacks. I have been to more than 50 places for Lunch buffet but surely I would not recommend this in top 50%. Over all the food was okay to just suffice your appetite and kill your hunger cramps but if you are a fan of good north/south Indian dishes and food is more than just supper. This is not the...
Read moreLarge portions, wonderfully rich flavor and the price was reasonable. Our pick-up order consisted of Chicken Curry, Beef Vindaloo, naan, roti, large side of basmati rice and Gobi Pakora (battered cauliflower) there was also a free side (I don't know the name of it) included with our order. Everything was cooked well, however my beef vindaloo's spice level was a little lower than I had requested, but the overall taste was spot on, which in my opinion is the most important part of Indian food.
I cannot really review the restaurant's service because I did pick-up. However the space of the location looked cleaned and has been renovated. In the brief amount of time I was inside, I noticed there was live music and plenty of seating.
I've eaten at many Indian restaurants, often times I leave wishing for a bit more flavor, but that was not the case with Tandoor of India. I will be sure to visit the establishment...
