Fred's — Restaurant in Town of Pomfret

There is a for sale sign in the window that should be a bad sign. I've visited this restaurant a dozen times or so with family per their recommendation and request over the years. Disappointed sums up each and every visit hands down. This is a small place. 6 booths and as many 2-4 top tables with a 6-7 person bar. For such a small place a single bartender/server combo should be enough to provide decent service. . How incorrect I was each time. Not sure how this place has such a high Google rating. . . When you have to go to the bar to get a simple water refill when the place is 3/4 empty that's a problem. Ordered a "seafood combo" deep fried haddock and 3 jumbo shrimp. Food was mediocre at best, yet again. Pasta salad was days old it seemed ... Visited lunch on a Friday this last visit, which will for sure be the last even if it stays open. At least there's quick draw to entertain you while you wait for service....

Absolute garbage. What a disgrace. What's wrong with the standards around here?? These reviews are either fake and/or from owner's friends because anyone with a semblance of a pallet wouldn't praise this trash. I ordered the reuben and chicken fingers as they were out of boneless chicken (nice job keeping up with stock at 4pm...). The reuben was dry and bland. What a shame. Couldn't finish it. The "homemade" fries? Yeah, I'll take McDonald's over that tasteless undercooked potato chunk. And that's a low bar. The chicken fingers? Paper thin with fried batter that tasted like they need to clean their equipment. Disgusting. Lastly, the "homemade" blue cheese. Not blue cheese at all. No bite to it. Tasted like a neutered ranch. What a sorry excuse for a restaurant. THEY EVEN CHARGE FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL TO GO CONTAINER. Lol... just wow. Never ever ordering...

food was good, nothing amazing. we had the banana pepper appetizer, it was ok. the burger had a good flavor, was good sized. the beer cheese was decent. fries appeared to be frozen, bland. there was some bread included with the peppers that had grated cheese on top, that was good. not impressed with anything we had enough to go back. they also have no bell to ring to alert them that youre standing there waiting for your order. i was waiting for almost 10 minutes as my food was just sitting there on the counter and nobody came to the front even once. finally another customer had to go into the back and tell someone...
