CAPPERI — Restaurant in Town of Poughkeepsie

This little Italian restaurant was a delightful surprise. We went there because it had favorable reviews. We found out that it is under new ownership as of approximately 9 months ago, late in 2024. Carlos, one of the co-owners, greeted us, cooked our food, and checked to see that everything was all right several times. He is clearly very interested in pleasing his customers. My husband is Italian and gives the quality of the food and the expertise of its preparation high marks. We ordered two appetizers, Caesar salad and bruschetta. The Caesar salad was delicious and big enough to share. The bruschetta had wonderful flavors, was delightfully presented on a board and the thing I like the best was that the toast was not too hard to bite into. Finally, for our meals I had a chicken parmesan sandwich which was a reasonably large portion, and my husband had lasagna. We both enjoyed every bit. The food is prepared while you wait, so it is not fast food at all. He makes everything from scratch. If you go in in, prepare to relax, enjoy your food and give Carlos greetings from us! Ps. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I'm not a fan of reviews this is actually my first time leaving a review ever, but for this place I feel like i have to take the time out of my day. I went to the Advancedauto across the street, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE btw, and as i was leaving I saw the place, it looked good from the outside,never saw this place before and thought i would check it out since I haven't had breakfast yet. I walked in, said good morning, and asked if the place is new. I saw 2 individuals, a male and a female, and they treated me as if I was a criminal or I don't belong here. You can see genuine fear on their faces as they looked over their shoulder to watch me and looked away when when we make eye contact, it was such an uncomfortable situation, They were stuttering as i asked for the menu and I ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and they offered to sell me a breakfast sandwich that has been sitting for an hour according to the guy. Now imagine living in a world where your appearance scares people. As a young back man, I never felt this embarrassed and incriminated in my life. This should not be a business. Our experience at Capperi was one of the most delightful and delicious dining experiences ever. We needed a late lunch so our options in that area were limited. There were only a few reviews for this restaurant but they were all good ones so we tried it. We were the only customers and Carlos, our chef/waiter/proprietor had a Spanish accent, so I was a little anxious. We ordered the bruschetta and Caesar salad for appetizers and both were very good. I ordered the putenesca and my husband, the spaghetti and meatballs! They both were most excellent. We fell in love with Carlos. He is such a hard worker. He is not yet licensed to serve wine but I believe you can bring your own. Also, there are options for parking other than on the street.
