I have loved LJS since I was a kid and when they had alot more locations. I have had both good and bad experiences at the Queensbury location. The 1 time I ordered in store, the food was delicious, hot, and exactly what I hoped for. My uncle ordered a shrimp platter with extra fries in lieu hush puppies and I ordered a 3 piece chicken meal with Cole slaw instead of fries and 2 side ordered of chrunchies and added another piece of chicken and more hush puppies. My order was perfect. My uncle's order was a little dry, but he had almost a whole box of fries that he waited for. They even brought them to the table so I could eat my food while it was hot. The soda fountain area was a little messy and the mix was off. I usually drink diet soda but I filled my cup and took 1 sip and had to dump it because it tasted like pure seltzer. I brought it up to staff and they offered to give me a new one from the stuff they had for drive thru, and it was better but still not right. At that point I asked to switch to a strawberry freeze, that cost more money, and they did without turning it into a hassle or charging me the difference. As far as the condiment counter, almost every bin was full and overflowing except for the BBQ sauce. I went to get one out of the bin and one must have busted because my hand came out covered in BBQ sauce. I mentioned it to staff and they said as soon as they had time they would fix it, and gave me a fresh one to try. This was a late lunchtime order, and before I left someone did come and clean and replace the BBQ sauce bin.
Now for the drive-thru orders, I go 1 to 3 times a week. Basically when I am in the area after a church function. The first time I went through the drive-thru I ordered a 2 piece chicken meal with Cole slaw in lieu of fries and extra hushpuppies and crumbles. When I got home 45 minutes later, I was kind of pissed off at the size of my meal. It looked as though I had ordered chicken nuggets from McD's. I really wish I had taken pictures. My biggest complaint would be the huge difference in size between the chicken and the fish. I need to basically double my order to make sure I have enough chicken to eat for a meal and not a snack. It looked like a child's portion for a kiddie meal. It's also on the pricey side. Now I make sure I check my drive-thru orders while I am at the window and sometimes you get 'nugget' size and others you would get an actual chicken plank. Sometimes they forget my hushpuppies, and I usually have to remind them of the side orders of crumbles. They used to put them in the bottom of the box all the time, but now most of the time you need to ask for them. Lastly, I would say that half of the time when I go, they are out of Cole slaw and I do not know why. I don't know if it's a supply chain problem or if they make it in store or what not but it's very disappointing. The hushpuppies,Cole slaw, and crumbles make the meal. Also I wish they served it a little later, since it's paired up with Taco Bell that's open late. I gave a 4 star review. That would be for orders that were correct, where the chicken was decent sized, and hushpuppies and Cole slaw and crumbles were perfect and not dry. But in reality I would have to drop it down to 1.5 stars due to inconsistencies of chicken size compared to fish size for the same price, having items out of stock, and orders not complete by forgetting hushpuppies or crumbles. I know I go late at night sometimes but if you say you are open until 9 or 10PM I expect to still get hot FRESH food until the time listed, even if I have to wait for it. I really like their chicken because it real breast meat and not a pattie with rib meat or a nugget type filling. All in all, I really wish the could lower the price a little, because it's one of the most expensive places to go...
Read moreTHE WORSE "FOOD" EVER SERVED TO US!!!! Yesterday we went to the Long John Silver's/Taco Bell in Queensbury, NY. We had just driven 100 miles and I had to use the ladies room. I saw a lady carrying four or five bags that went in the ladies room. The door was locked, so I was standing there waiting. One of the female employees went directly into the mens room. When she came out I told her that I'd been waiting to get into the ladies room, but it was locked. She said a homeless person was in there and would probably be a while. So, I went to join my husband. We sat at a table that probably hadn't been cleaned for days. It was so sticky in the center that our salt and pepper packets stuck to the table. We couldn't believe what the food looked like when we opened the boxes. We both purchased the fish and shrimp platter. Both the fish and shrimp were fried so hard that they were difficult to eat and the fish was so dried out, there was hardly any fish at all in there. One of my hush puppies didn't have anything inside. It was just overly fried, hard batter. It was like it was food left over from the day before and put back into the hot grease to warm it up. We thought of just bringing it back to the counter and tell them we wouldn't eat it, but we were worried, if we got another meal, that someone would spit in our food or something. We will NEVER go back there again. TERRIBLE! I did hear back from the Marketing Manager for the Long John Silver's in Queensbury, NY. This is what she had to say: "Thank you for taking the time to get back to me. I am sorry to hear that you did not have a great experience at Taco Bell. This is not up to our standards, and I can understand how frustrating it is not to use the bathroom after a long road trip. We have been very short-staffed at this location, but that is no excuse for not having a clean dining room. I have shared your feedback with our team, and I would like to send you a gift card to make up for it. Can you please send me your mailing address?" This was my reply to her: "I noticed that, in your email to me about the Long John Silver's in Queensbury, you didn't mention anything about how bad the food was that was served to us. That was the worse part of the whole situation. Between the terrible food and the dirty tables, we just wouldn't want other people to go through what we did. Thank you for offering to give us a gift card, but we aren't looking for anything in return except to correct the problem there. I know it's hard to get good people to work nowadays, but those people should be fired, or you need a new manager that will make sure they are doing their...
Read moreWhere to begin. My complaint is truly a first world problem, but I believe in voting with your wallet, so I will waste my time writing this review for a this fast "food" chain. Other than the absolute filthy doors, interior and condiment counter, making you not want to touch anything in the place, let a lone eat something, here is my biggest complaint.....I rarely go to Long John Silver, but this one is convenient for me and every once in a while I get a craving for it and go, which I always immediately regret afterwards. I really only visit maybe 2 or 3 times a year, and the last time I went was maybe 6 months ago or more. This time I ordered the fish and shrimp platter, which always looks appetizing in the menu picture. But this time, to my surprise, when I received my order and opened it, I thought, did I order a half portion? In the past, the size of the fish and fries almost over flowed the container making it hard to even close the lid. Not so much this time. The fish was at best 2/3 the size as in the past and more likely half the size. With this menu item you get two pieces of fish, which in this case equaled the size of one piece from past orders. The fries looked like a half portion and seem to be made of some sort of leather material they found in the basement, the shrimp surprisingly looked normal size.
Of course the only thing that increased in size was the price. So Long John Silver is giving half the amount of food it used to give and charging more for it! Unconscionable.
In closing, I recommend you avoid Long John Silver anywhere based on cleanliness, price gouging and food quality. You'll also be much healthier. Shame on you Long John Silver and while it won't make any difference to your future bottom line, you've lost a customer forever. And hopefully many others.
Update: The response from the owner must be the same bot generated response to the many negative reviews for this place over the last months and years. It sounds fake. None of the problems have changed in this "restaurant" and in fact it has only gotten worse over time. Avoid it...
