Agave Restaurant and Lounge — Restaurant in Town of Ramapo

UPDATED REVIEW 2025: I gave this place another try, as suggested by the owner, but this time I went inside to sit. The ambiance is adorable, with upbeat music and decor to fit the restaurant style. The server was excellent, friendly, and attentive, and she knew a lot of the regulars that walked in, who were happy to see her. The chips and guacamole were very good and the portion of guac was large. The peach margarita was AMAZING. I didn't eat anything other than the guac and chips, so I will have to come back again to fully update my review, but I am increasing stars for this more recent experience. Looking fwd to next time.

ORIGINAL REVIEW- 1 Yr Prior: We ordered from here for our office lunch on Friday. My coworkers were satisfied with their orders (Aguacate Rellenos, Fish Tacos and Street Tacos) but my cheese quesadillas were terrible. There was no flavor at all in the quesadillas, the orange (yellow) rice, or the "refried" beans (which were not refried, they were very watery). I was truly very excited to try this new restaurant! I went on a Tuesday night and there was 3 tables and 2 people at the bar- took 20 minutes to get drinks- another 20 to get appetizers in. Hubby had a kettle on the rocks- and it costs $10- and was literally 4 sips. I had the mango margarita was tasty- but definitely not getting a buzz from these drinks. We had the empanadas as an appetizer- 1 chicken and 1 beef- they were soggy and tasteless! I had the quesabirria meal- be advised it’s like an appetizer, very small portions and white rice w black beans. Hubby had the La poblana - a pasta dish w chicken. Not good at all- was green pasta- didn’t taste Mexican or Italian and not much chicken. Again we were very excited to try this restaurant and it was really awful- we were with another couple- who had tacos and guacamole as dinners- our bill was $220 and we all left hungry and disappointed with the food. I absolutely love this place. I come here about 3 times a week. I’ve dined in and I pick up a lot when I’m on my break at work. The staff is super friendly. Tracy, Joel, Eddie and Mario are the servers I’ve had so far and you are always greeted with a smile and they are so pleasant. The food is outstanding. I enjoy their nachos, quesadillas , queso fundido , and their guacamole is amazing too. I absolutely love their margaritas. One thing I really like about Agave as well is that I call an hour and a half before I get there and ask for my food to be ready by 8:50pm sharp and its always ready for me to pick up. Someone like me that works in transportation needs a spot like this where they are right on time. I usually pick up the aguacate relleno. It’s tasty, addicting and healthy.
