A Hidden Gem of Authentic Delights
Nestled in the heart of Suffern, we stumbled upon a true culinary treasure - a small, unassuming restaurant that left us utterly delighted and satisfied. With an unpretentious exterior, little did we know that this eatery would become an unforgettable gastronomic experience. This delightful establishment, run by a husband-chef and his warm-hearted wife-host, truly captured our hearts with their impeccable service and delectable offerings.
Upon entering, the ambiance exuded a sense of homeliness and comfort, setting the stage for what was about to be a remarkable meal. The husband-chef's passion for his craft was evident in the exceptional Chicken Dum Biryani served to us. Each grain of rice was infused with aromatic spices, and the tender chicken pieces perfectly complemented the flavorful blend. The biryani was undoubtedly the highlight of our meal, with its authentic taste transporting us to the streets of Hyderabad.
As adventurous eaters, we couldn't resist trying the Karampodi Kodi, and we were not disappointed. The dish struck the right balance between fiery and flavorful, leaving our taste buds tingling with delight. The generous portions and the subtle combination of spices made it an absolute winner.
To add more variety to our feast, we opted for the Lamb Chops, and they turned out to be a mouthwatering revelation. Cooked to perfection, each succulent chop was packed with rich, savory goodness. The accompanying marinade added a burst of tangy flavor, creating a culinary symphony on our palates.
What truly set this restaurant apart was the personalized attention we received from the charming couple who owned and ran the place. With genuine care and warmth, they curated our order to suit our tastes, making us feel like esteemed guests in their home. Throughout our meal, they attentively checked on us, ensuring we were comfortable and enjoying the experience. Their sincere hospitality added a touch of familiarity and made the dining experience truly unforgettable.
The combination of delicious food, authentic flavors, and personalized service has left an indelible impression on us. We are already planning our return to this hidden gem to relish their exceptional creations once again. In conclusion, our dining experience at this small, family-run restaurant was nothing short of spectacular. From the delightful Chicken Dum Biryani to the fiery Karampodi Kodi and mouthwatering Lamb Chops, every dish was crafted with care and finesse. Coupled with the warm hospitality of the husband-chef and wife-host, our visit was truly memorable. Read moreThe restaurant turned 1 year old yesterday. I'm glad I found a restaurant 20 mins away that serves good food. The surprising dish in the menu I saw was Egg bhonda & cut mirchi which are street stall items in South india.
Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nothing amusing, just a regular restaurant. A lot can be done to make it look more authentic down to the root Indian location. Plenty of seating area, however small, yet quaint.
Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The service is top notch. The Punjabi lady who is the co-owner has lovely etiquettes and a welcoming smile. Food was serviced at a timely manner without anything missing in my order. When I asked if I can take a few pictures and videos of the restaurant the lady happily allowed.
Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Chicken dum biryani and goat dum biryani are pretty on spot. Tasted just like Hyderabadi dum biryani which was served with onions, pickles, boiled egg, raita, & garnish, however Mirchi Ka salan was missing. Although delicious, butter chicken was a bit on the sweeter side. Chicken 65 was good, but a lot of components were missing such as the semi thick gravy which includes curry leaves, ginger & garlic, and chips of onions and the chicken could have been crispier. Naan was not doughy and was tasty. I couldn't wait to eat the Cut mirchi and Egg bhonda. I was a bit disappointed to be honest, the items were tasty, however lacked the amount of masala seasoning enough on them and the green chutney was extremely salty, I had to eat them by dipping it in raita which did the job. I would love to see some red chutney with these 2 items.
Suggestions to the owner: Do not cute the Mirchi bhaji - it takes away the authenticity of the dish. Back in India as we know they are served whole on the street. Use whole eggs in egg bhonda and add more masala seasoning. Add a whole boiled egg by cutting them in half for the biryani and serve with Mirchi Ka salan and Raita.

Read moreWe went to this restaurant based on the recommendation of our Indian neighbors who spoke highly of the quality and authenticity of the food. We were not disappointed. In business for 20 months, this unpretentious restaurant in downtown Suffern, NY offers both great personalized service and delicious Indian food, some of the best if not THE best I've had. The owner who is also the server could not have done more to make our meal enjoyable. On multiple occasions she asked us if the food was to our liking, if we needed anything, if we had any questions. Highlights were the Gobi Manchurian cauliflower florets, garlic naan, lamb biryani and the curries. I took a chance and ordered my biryani with medium spice, the rest of the table ordered mild. I recommend going for it, the cucumber yogurt helps to cool things down. If I was only rating the food and service I would absolutely give 5 stars. There was only 1 negative that caused me to give 4 stars and that is their BYO policy which is they don't allow it. I love a delicious meal but I love a delicious meal even more when I can enjoy a glass of my favorite wine. I believe that allowing BYO would increase their customer base. Nonetheless, delicious food trumps a glass of wine and so I...
