UPDATE Summer 2024: The new owner is Randi J, and he has a stellar staff behind the bar and doubling as wait staff. Randy is a master chef whose culinary delights are excellent. Daily Instagram posts on the Stories lists the daily specials so one knows what's on tap for the evening beyond the menu. They have Burger Tuesday's (quintessentially French) with a complimentary beer or wine, and pasta nights with the similar complimentary drinks. The food is delightful, Randy makes a Cod special that simply melts on the palate. The steak is a tasteful staple. Branzino another tastefully prepared dish on the menu. The Foie Gras special appetizer is excellent, but make sure you get the toasted bread nice and warm, makes all the difference.
Even though leanly staffed (it is Red Hook), the service, the grace, warmth and good cheer of the staff is much appreciated. One just has to be patient on busy nights. It's not inexpensive but there has been a move towards more moderately priced items also.
A good place to go eat dinner in Red Hook, a favorite actually.
Outdated Review from a while back:Alain Urbini is the consummate host , his chef is a grandmaster. Staff are very kind, gracious and working their heart out. There have been staffing issues in the last year but this establishment is not alone, life in the Hudson Valley restaurant business. Love the gracious hospitality , itās the the go to place for me, and a few of my friends. Get the Salmon, Mussels and Branzino, canāt miss and ask the Chef if he has a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy girlfriend and I have been meaning to try this restaurant since we noticed that they have opened. Since, ya know, "all the stuff that's been goin on," we just haven't gotten dressed up and done much proper dining. As it was long overdue, last night was the night and we wanted to try something different than our usual go-to spots in the area.
I'm very glad we did. This cute little house in the village of Redhook serves fantastically creative, but authentically French cuisine. The whole menu looked amazing and had a proper wine list replete with French wines.
We started with the foie gras mousse, and salmon tartare. The mousse was of perfect consistency with a uniquely smooth texture and had mild but wonderful taste. The tartare was very fresh, light and summery with an uplifting citrus presence.
For the entrees we went with the special: a lightly crusted red snapper with mussels and tomato on a bed of fennel in a lobster reduction -- definitely a creative and delicious construction. Chef's Kiss!
The service was attentive, warm and professional with an obvious knowledge of food and proper service. (I didn't know this could still be found these days) Thank you, Thomas!
BOTTOM LINE: All in all: fine dining in a relaxed country atmosphere. A most welcomed (and needed) addition to the area. Only problem is, I'm gonna have to keep going back until I try everything...
Read moreThis little French Bistro was a diamond. What a find, in this sleepy little town! We drove an hour to get here, and it was well worth the trip. The food was amazing! The service was impeccable and very accommodating. We had several food allergy issues, and they were wonderful about everything. We even had a baby with us, 8 mos, and boy did he love the Paté. We had the Coco Vaughn (so delicious, thank goodness we shared), Duck (delicious), Salmon with Lentils & BrusselSprouts (perfectly cooked) and Escargot (cooked to perfection and the butter & seasonings did not over power and could be soaked up with the fabulous bread provided) I left nothing on my plate. We even had dessert! Chocolate Mousse, a very generous portion, with chocolate shavings in the mousse, and so delicious. The Creme Brule was also very good. And our bottle of wine, suggested by our hostess, was the perfect pairing to our amazing meal. We will surely be back. Thank you to the wonderful chef and staff at...
