This will be a long read... My husband and I were in the area for some work training stuff he had going on. Saturday he was let out early so we decided to check out the little town of Saugerties NY. After walking around for a bit, my hubby needed some cigs (eww, I know lol) so we stopped at the smoke shop there in town. We asked the very kind gentleman if he had any restaurant recommendations. He recommended The Dutch. I ran a good search and found what I thought was the menu. I seen crab dip and that was all she wrote! When we entered this establishment, I immediately felt out of place. It seemed "too fancy" for my sweat outfit and his work jeans & hoodie but we were seated anyways. Our server greeted is with a welcoming smile and kindness. She asked if we wanted water to start off, we replied yes. Then she asked bottle or tap....here I'm thinking like a plastic water bottle although at this point I should've known better 😅 I said bottle. She then goes....sparkling or still.... 😳 ummmm.....sttiiilllllll 🤔 She brings out this fancy glass blue water bottle. I looked at my husband like what the heck is THIS stuff?! We toom a sip and WOWZA!! That water was the best water we have ever had, not even plaayyiiinnnggg!!! She asked if we were ready to order. I then asked about the crab dip because I didn't see it on the menu. Well, come to find out, that was a very old menu AND they recently changed the menu again. Now, I may live in PA, BUT!! I was born & raised in Baltimore, MD so I'm obviously all in for my crabs 🦀 She apologized a few times, although she truly didn't have to, and gave us a bit longer to check out the menu. Now, if you noticed, I dont have any photos of the food, and there's a perfectly good explanation for it.... with how SCRUMPTIOUS those parm garlic white truffle fries and the smoked brisket with jalapeño cornbread & coleslaw was, I totally forgot I even had a phone and by the time I remembered, our food was gone 😋 With all that being said, we HIGHLY recommend The Dutch and the delicious water, food and the wonderful service!! It stinks we live 4 hours away!! I NEED those fries in my life 😩🤣 P.s. I THINK our severs name was Ariel and she deserves a raise lol no but seriously, she has wonderful customer service skills accompanied by a bright, welcoming smile & attitude 🤌 I'm thankful God led us to this establishment ♡

WOW! Ok, this is not some "beer garden" this was waaay over the top, so much nicer than anyone can imagine. A HUGE, solid, sturdy, wedding sized tent with a real floor. Not some flimsy, poorly constructed, wobbly behemoth ready to fall over. Comfortable chairs with backs, all tables socially distanced, yet didn't feel isolated. HUGE shoutout to whoever did The Dutch Ale House AV, this individual thought of everything. The acoustics from the exceptional live music was at a perfect level, the lighting, plants, no detail was overlooked. The food. Oh boy, where to start. We had the ribs, charcuterie, burrata, wine, rootbeer, each dish was better than the one before. Service also was exceptional from Ben who greeted us, our waiter Bob and we were lucky enough to meet the Gilpin's, a charming and clearly hard working couple. Cleanliness? No need to worry at The Dutch Ale House. We saw employees sanitize every single table, chair, menu, etc. after being touched. We saw families with young children, couples on date night and co-workers gathered together, all enjoying, eating, drinking, laughing and happily following protocols without feeling demonized like so many restaurants do these days with COVID. Unfortunately, we live 100 miles away, so do us a favor. Go to The Dutch Ale House in Saugerties, NY on our behalf. We can't wait to return.

The food was really good. I had a blue cheese burger and upgraded my fries to truffle for a small upcharge. I think it was worth the upcharge to try it. The portion was pretty good-sized, not overkill like you see at some places. But I couldn't finish what was on my plate. We had the pretzel with beer cheese to start. While it was good, I don't think it was worth the price. The service seemed like the place might could be managed differently. There was a guy on his laptop at the bar that saw us walk in but took a while to stop what he was doing, put the laptop away, then walk up to help us. I honestly didn't think he worked there. After that service seemed slow. But the staff was very friendly and looked like they were hustling even though the place wasn't crazy busy. That's why my mind goes to management. It was our first time to explore Saugerties and while I think we'll be back to the town, I don't think the service was good enough for me to want to go back.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Dutch, a gem of a restaurant in Saugerties. It has become our go-to place after a day of skiing on the mountain, and I must say, it truly stands out among the local dining options. The Dutch is one of the best restaurants in the area, and the fact that it stays open late sets it apart from the competition.

The atmosphere at The Dutch is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day. Their selection of IPA beers is impressive, with a rotating variety that always keeps things fresh. On my last visit, I was particularly taken by the KCBC IPA.

The food at The Dutch is nothing short of incredible. The Dutch Burger is one of the best I've ever had, and the House Smoked Pastrami Reuben is another must-try item on the menu. Their commitment to quality and flavor is evident in every dish.

One suggestion I have for the restaurant is to consider expanding the menu or rotating it weekly. As a frequent visitor, I would love to see a bit more variety to keep things interesting. However, this minor detail doesn't take away from the overall excellence of the dining experience.

I also want to commend The Dutch for their reasonably priced kids' menu. Their affordable and delicious kids' burgers and fries are a refreshing change from the usual overpriced children's options. It's clear that The Dutch values families and understands the needs of parents.

In conclusion, The Dutch is an outstanding restaurant in Saugerties that offers great food, a fantastic atmosphere, and a family-friendly environment. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend stopping...

I have visited the Dutch several times since moving to Saugerties, New York. Unfortunately, the experience has been going downhill recently. Each time we have visited my boyfriend has ordered one of the draft beers only to be told a few minutes later that the tap for that particular beer is empty or not working he then orders a different beer… which would seem to be no big deal, but we have waited between eight and 15 minutes for the replacement beer to come many times long after the food has been served. Because this has happened every on every visit, the absurdity has become a a bit of a joke between us …as we ponder which draft beer he should order so that they can come back and tell him it’s unavailable! 😂 Another concern is that during the last two visits the dining area in the restaurant has been freezing cold. In fact, it was so cold that on both visits this I had to put my winter coat back on! While dining on different occasions we’ve enjoyed the Shepherds pie, pulled pork sandwiches, schnitzel and fish and chips. The food is tasty, but I’ve noticed the portions are getting smaller with each visit. I was particularly surprised when my Shepherd’s pie was served in a tin the size of a typical small, shallow cereal bowl. Plenty to eat, however, when you’re spending $28 for a meal at this type of location, you tend to expect a larger dish. I am hopeful that things turn around here in the future, because at the moment, things seem to be sliding in a negative direction...
