Ordered the open steak sandwich from the weekday specials menu & it was an actual steak, not the shaved Stake'em meat! What a bargain for $16! I had to bring half home.
Place is clean & they'll allow you to choose your seat (like away from the vents), and ask to hold the salt, without eye rolls. Staff is competent & orders come out right, almost always (they keep putting lemon in the water, even if you say not to. Can still get a burger with fries & cole slaw under $15. The kids menu has several affordable options.
Desserts are fresh & sliced in hunks--say cheeeese cake.
Reason why not 5 stars? Pepsi drink products. Shakes are runny. Parking can be tough during peak time. Decor is dated & a bit dank. Hidden up charges, like some drinks aren't free refill only sodas; seltzer & lemon is charged like a soda. wait staff charges for extras like bread or extra croutons inconsistently. If you take-out large soups, they add water, but eat in & it's thick & yummy. (I recommend the cream of turkey, split pea & lentil. Order them early; they sell out fast.)
Even with those negatives Kaz Americana is still a great place to meet & eat real food. The service is still pretty quick, when crowded. And food quality and portions are better & larger than the chain eateries nearby. The "family" clientele is courteous & voices don't carry outside the booths.
I hope they won't change when business increases. They...
Read moreGreat old school diner! Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The food for the most part was very good. Generous portions, for sure. I had meatloaf, mashed potatoes and corn. It also came with a soup or salad. I chose chicken orzo soup. The soup was very delicious and tasted homemade. It was very savory—-I wish there was more❤️. The meatloaf was good but a little dry. It was served with some nice brown gravy that tasted like it had nutmeg in it. It was good, but unusual. The mashed potatoes were homemade and not instant. My picky son gobbled them up! What my son didn’t eat was his own dinner, which was the kid’s Mac and cheese. It looked good, but when I tasted it (since he didn’t like it) I found it to be very bland. It was elbows mixed with a “Cheese flavored” sauce. I say that it quotes because the only thing that made it mimic cheese was the orange color. It wasn’t awful, but it also had no flavor. 😕 I got plenty of potatoes and corn so I just shared my food with him—it’s all good. He also had French fries. They were pretty standard and he enjoyed those. My husband loved his pancakes and sausage….he left not a speck on the plate! 😀
Overall a nice experience, and next time we are in the area we would love to come back. I saw some sandwiches being delivered to another table that looked great. I think I will try something like...
Read moreI ordered a German CHOCOLATE cake for my dad’s 64th birthday. I picked the cake up last Friday morning, brought it home and put it in the fridge. Sunday we celebrated and when we cut into the cake to our surprise the cake was vanilla. When I called and brought this to the attention on the manager on duty I was told this was “their interpretation” of a German Chocolate Cake and she apologized but didn’t offer any sort of recourse. I ordered this cake specifically because I had been to this diner previously and taken home a piece of delicious German Chocolate Cake months prior. Being this is my dad’s favorite cake I had brought him a slice. I’d been planning to buy a whole cake for his birthday ever since that day. The cake was CHOCOLATE as it should be. I feel in order to make this right I should get the cake I ordered. I even Googled German Chocolate Cake and every image that came up showed chocolate cake. I’ve never heard of a German Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Cake on the inside. Am I being ridiculous? Or do I have a right to be upset? I will happily remove this review if this is made right by either refunding what I paid or providing the...
