Extremely Disrespectful and Unsafe Experience
I wish I could give this place less than one star. I’ve been here several times before with my daughters, but this last visit was extremely upsetting. While we were quietly talking and my youngest was sitting at the table, a white man approached us aggressively, telling me to “keep my kids quiet” because he was on a date with his wife. We were not being loud at all—there were other people in the restaurant, and even the TV was louder than we were.
I reported the situation to management, hoping for support or at least acknowledgment. Instead, they laughed it off and continued serving the man like nothing happened. It felt like they sided with him because he was a regular customer—and frankly, because he was white. They said nothing to him and acted like I was the problem.
As a Black woman/Hispanic , this made me and my daughters feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. My daughters and I felt uncomfortable, disrespected, and completely unwelcome. We choose to leave !!! . I kept thinking how different things might have gone if my husband had been there. It’s scary and frustrating to be treated like your presence is a problem—especially when you’re doing absolutely nothing wrong.
This place clearly treats people differently based on race or background It’s clear that if you’re Black or Hispanic, you’re not treated with the same respect here. The staff’s fake smiles don’t cover the bias and disregard they showed us.
I will not be returning, and I caution others—especially families of color—to be very aware before visiting this...
Read moreOrdered seafood fried noodles plate for 17.95 the noodles where not fried, mention it and was brushed off like they were afraid not to get paid. The first time I had it it was done right I've since gone back three times and no more all others trips were bad.It seem like they were in a rush to put out dish because doing it right takes longer.Never again it's a shame,I know the restaurant business well and gave them enough opportunities to get it right. The also use compressed fish looking crab meat which is done with bad fishes for your health. It seem they cut one tiny scallop in to four thins slices wow,the calamari strips were like rubber, very disappointed enough to do this review.I know this dish is hard to do you pan fry the noodles making crispy but their were mushing with practically no crisp whatsoever. This process takes longer but it was not like they were busy ,it's either lazy or no clue what they are doing either way this place is...
Read moreI am a former NYC resident and lived over 40 years just blocks away from NYC's Chinatown. I have also eaten Chinese food an average of once a week for the past 60 years. When I moved to the Orange / Sullivan County area 20 years ago ,one of my biggest regrets was the poor quality of Chinese food in the area,, that was until I found YouYou. Their food is the closest I've found to Chinatown or the many excellent Chinese restaurants in Brooklyn or Queens. While not perfect, most of the dishes I've tried there are very good. The service for dine in is also very good. The inside can use an update but everything looks clean. They definitely need new tables though as I don't like the feel of the varnish on the tables they have now and some of the booths are starting to show that age. They are about 20 miles away from me but worth the drive. I'm tired of throwing other Chinese food away, at least I know YouYou is worth my...
