Well, the place is beautiful....things were tasty and presented beautifully, but then, well read on. I booked my daughter's bridal shower 3 months in advanced. Leaving a deposit. Just days later we had to change the date...we were forced to forfeit the original deposit, charged an additional $100 deposit for the date. Bad business practice. We thought we would use the whole place but then as the numbers dwindled, we informed them. The communication was very lack-luster. After days we would finally get a reply..still no contract. Several times we tried to contact the owner to finalize our party, head counts, and other questions. Finally the day before, we spoke. They were charging us for additional people because they quote "lost business". Well, 31 of us were crammed in 2 rooms. We needed to ask for water...hot tea...iced tea...lemonade or anything we needed. We were told that fresh fruit would be served to guests with Celiac disease...oh yes, we once again had to ask. Sandwiches looked good, but contained perhaps a tablespoon of ham salad., Egg salad, or a smear of cream cheese. Certainly not the amount that we paid for it! As we opened the gifts, the tables were left a mess! No one ever came in to clear or check on guests. When I finally asked about dessert and freshening up teas, they explained that we usually serve in the area that would interfere with the bride...i understood, 2 minutes later the staff plowed through with a dessert tray with goods bought from Sam's club. They stepped over the Bride and the gifts! I never have been to a place with such rudeness and lack of professionalism. We asked to speak to the owner, who never even came to check on the status of the party, she told us that she couldn't, because she was too busy with all her guests. Clearly if that the case, no business lost....we should have been charged for the group, no additional. When we expressed our disappointment, and how we thought that they were over charging us, they said...we have been in business for 15 years..this is what we do. I was amazed that that was the response. I questioned the 20% gratuity. Expressed that I did not feel that the service was worth that, especially since we had to ask for everything. Plus it was served family style, she said," that's what we do, this isn't Pennsylvania!" Very disgruntled with the attitudes, and lack of communication, poor professionalism, and not to mention, common food that we encountered at Charlotte's Tea Room. On a day that was to celebrate my daughter and her up coming wedding, we cringed at the display of arrogance and distaste for the place and owner. I actually feel sorry for the servers. They are in the clutches of a tyrant. Oh and yes, they charged us for 14 additional people! Shame on them for their greed, shame on me for falling into thier trap....I heard that Fetch down the...
Read moreI only give reviews when something or some place is either REALLY good or REALLY bad and to my disappointment, this experience was really bad. If I could give Charlotte's Tea Room Negative 5 stars, I would. I went here with my daughters and friends for a girl's day and tea party. I/we were so excited and then it turned to disappointment. The service was terrible. We had to search for a server and ASK for everything. We had to ask for water and then ask for refills, everyone in our party had to choose either lemonade or iced tea; meaning, we either ALL got iced tea OR we ALL got lemonade. I clarified with the server that the lemonade was a mix, not fresh squeezed, so I'm not sure what the issue was with each having a choice. The hot tea was made with tea bags (far from what I expected in a "tea house"). We had mediocre scones, tea sandwiches with barely enough salad on the bread to give it flavor, and then dessert came out... I have been to plenty of functions to recognize the assortment of desserts from Sam's Club or BJ's. It did seem as though they baked the cookies because they were warm, but based on the size, shape, and appearance of them, they were slice and bake. When the bill came, our jaws hit the floor. We were charged 20% gratuity and our food was WAY over priced. I asked to see the owner and/or manager. I have never complained about a dining experience, but everyone in our party agreed, we couldn't let it go. I was met with opposition, attitude, and more disappointment! We received no excuse, forget about apology! Never in my life have I experienced horrible customer service in an establishment built on customer service. I will never go back and certainly would absolutely not...
Read moreI need to ammend my review from 3 days ago. Saturday, the experience at Charlotte's tea room was phenomenal so much so that we wanted to return. We came without reservation but the wait staff was kind and attentive.
Today, however, the experience was awful. I called before we went and a woman told us they had a lot of reservations. We told her when we were thinking of coming and she scoffed dismissively and said fine and they would "do their best." So we all went, and when we got there, the same woman I spoke to on the phone tried to turn us away. Another group came without reservations minutes later. She said there would be a wait. We asked if it would be longer than an hour and she said no, so we stayed. She sat us down, but gave us no menus and left us for a while. She then came and said she needed to take the orders of the people with reservations before she could take our order, and we told her that was fine. She took the orders and served everyone, including the other group who came without reservations after us and then disappeared for a while. It took her 55 minutes total to even take our order. She only became nicer to us once we ordered food. We feel like her rude attitude towards us before was because we were the first group to come without reservation and she took it out on us and the child with us who was starving by the time the woman took the order. Next time we come, it will be on the weekend with the kinder wait staff and WITH A RESERVATION so that we aren't dismissed and shoved into a...
