Let me start off with saying that we have been coming here since it opened and it was one of our favorite places to visit while in town. We have donated board games for everyone to use while enjoying the food. His doughnuts were my favorite... Now in regards to our latest visit..... It was one of our worse meals in this area or anywhere. The meal deserves one star but I gave it two from the past experiences.
The owner was nice enough to reserve a table for us which we promptly arrived five minutes early for. My wife ordered the vegetarian chilli, i ordered a mango/avacado/shrimp salad with a soy vinaigrette, with edamame and shrimp dumplings. Our friends ordered 2 tomatoes soups and the steak sandwich and pad tai. Their kids got a cheese quesadilla. The service has always been subpar but was overlooked due to the good food. However it did not make up for the experience as a whole this time and we will not be returning. Our drinks arrived promptly. Then my wife's chilli arrived ice cold where it was returned to the microwave and came back luke warm which was supposed to come with our dinners. Then our friends soup came five minutes latest and it was cold/luke warm. 5 minutes later my shrimp dumplings came that were cold and some room temperature. Then 5 minutes later my dinner salad came which was tiny for $18 it should have never left the kitchen. The mangos were white and hard as a rock, the soy vinaigrette was 100% soy sauce and the shrimp was overcooked, I promptly told one of the managers and was told there was nothing to substitute and it would be "reflected on the bill". So I suffered through it eating pure salt. 10 minutes later my friends pad tai came while he was forced to wait another 15 minutes for his wife's steak sandwich to come. So over the course of the 1.25 hour service we were all forced to eat cold food except the last to arrive. Any comments made were with the utmost respect and politeness The dinner was $170 dollars, which we were going to overlook and possibly try the place again since it was their opening night, if it was not for the rude response when I politily asked the owner about the salad. Immediately we got a major attitude that the whole table was taken aback about when he was asked about the salad that I was forced to eat minus the rock hard white mango because the other manager refused to take it back. With a fight and a attitude he took of the salad, and refused to go back and taste it for himself. We didn't even get to discuss the whole rest of the 150$ meal. So what was a 3.5 -3.75 was forced to now.be a 1 star. I sincerely hope he turns things around I hope he thinks that treating us like that was worth losing a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Windham Local Cafe is Delightful in many ways. While it is easy to appreciate the physical surroundings at the Local; high ceilings, beautiful brick work and tasteful wood-trim accents, the real charm here is the people. The personnel here begins with David, the founder/owner/proprietor. David had a vision of creating a comfortable relaxed environment, serving excellent food from the hands of a caring considerate staff. Goal Accomplished. Cyrus, a fairly new employee here at the Local( about two months), works the bar area and is a Barista who really knows what he is doing. His professional demeanor is enhanced by a kind, caring, gentle and sensitive persona. While Darlene is like the Ever-ready Bunny, constantly moving back and forth from the kitchen and the bar ensuring that her guests are attended to with delicious food and beverages. Darlene also works hard in the kitchen creating the most amazing food. She is a delightful friendly spirit and very talented at her work.
Today is my second time here this week. On New Yearās Day I came by with Fernando, one of my best friends and his girlfriend Amy. They shared the Cuban sandwich and assorted Tacos. I had the Garden salad and a my favorite Matcha Latte with a double shot of espresso ( sooo good!!) All the food served was excellent. Thank you
Today I stopped in after skiing Hunter this morning. I was craving another amazing Matcha Latte and wanted to say hello to the people who work here which is another testimony to the friendly Local vibe.
Looking forward to my next visit to the Windham Local very soon. Happy New Year!!

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came with my wife on our anniversary and were appreciative of the atmosphere. Sadly, that was really the only thing we liked.
Wait staff wasā¦terrible. Our simple order had 2 mistakes (wrong drink, no rice), and the waitress completely forgot about my wifeās meal. After waiting nearly half an hour AFTER I got my food, we had to flag her down to ask about my wifeās dish. The waitress couldnāt even recall what our order was and blamed it on the kitchen being too busy. We suspect she just forgot to order it. Honestly, weāve never had a situation where the wait staff completely forgot about our order before and were understandably very upset.
Food was okay. Roasted chicken and the veggie quesadilla were good! The steamed vegetables though were undercooked - I could do better with a microwave and a bag of frozen veggies. Normally Iād be okay with it if the price was reasonable, but at $31, my expectations of my food were way higher.
We waited for them to make it up to us, but nada from the waitress. To their credit, another member of the wait staff checked in later and offered a soda as a apology after we told her what happened, but by that point we were done with the place.
Overall, very poor experience. Typically I donāt write negative reviews as I get itās difficult to run a restaurant, but made an exception this time given how bad the experience was. If you wish to go, I hope your...
