Patisserie Normandy is a French-style bakery in Windham NY. Antoine is the owner and baker and he can be quite rude. I know the French don't really like Americans, but come on.. if you're in America, you need to treat your customers better.
I ordered a cake for my mother's birthday a few years ago, only to arrive to pick it up & it wasn't what I ordered. The answer I got back was - "take it or leave it." How is this good for business? I didn't take it. Instead, I came home and baked a coffee and walnut torte which took me a while to make, but was amazing. I don't need that kind of attitude. Next time I'll buy a cake in the city & bring it up with me.
This past weekend, we purchased a Salade Antoine - a vegetable "cake" made of grilled eggplant and zucchini and filled with a chopped salad consisting of romaine lettuce, cucumber, mozzarella and tomatoes. It lacked flavor, was extremely hard to cut and serve. At a steep price o $30 it was a shame to throw out so we ate the grilled veggies and discarded the wilted salad.
The Patisserie used to be open for cappuccino and desserts, but these days it's take out only. Too bad, as it was nice to sit down & eat freshly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I were so excited to try out this patisserie. Unfortunately, dissappointment does not begin to cover how we felt. We bought 4 items to try out. The 1st item was an eclair. The pate a choux was not good, the filling was whipped cream instead of custard, and the chocolate topping was inferior quality. 2nd was a Napoleon which again was made with whipped cream instead of custard and the puff pastry layers were so tough you could not chew it, 3rd item was a croissant which was dry and strangely salty, and lastly the apple turnover was extremely overcooked. Honestly, we took a bite of each and threw out the remainer. On top of the quality of the items, the man behind the counter was not the most friendly person...extremely abrupt and cranky. So sad that it was such a bad experience. We will not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA perfect croissant in a Catskill mountain top town is a godsend! The delicious crackle at the ends, the fluffy insides, the hint of butter, salt. Our NYC go-to croissant at the renowned Maison Kayser didn't compare. How do they do it... even in humid weather?
People flow in for the cronuts. As for me, the chocolate macaroons (gluten free, of course) are fantastic and, lately, the amazing fresh peach pie with perfect plump chunks of peach (never mushy) and a cookie-ish crust. The rest is equal to one's memories and tastes of French traditional goodies: tastes, eclairs, etc. I'd take the buttery small cookies... with a good cup of coffee, view of the ski slope. It's a lucky new luxury of this remarkable town. 5 years after this main street was a...
