Came for my husbands 75th birthday. Overall disappointed. When we walked into restaurant there was a faint smell of dirty mop water—my husband smelled faint odor of mold (I did not). We thought of leaving but my husband wanted to try the food. The Millstream website makes the ambience seem crisp and modern, and high end. It is not. We sat by a big window and other surrounding windows in the “sun room”. The big picture window we sat by looking over the actual Millstream, was cloudy and dirty—like looking thru a NYC subway car window, so the potentially lovely view was not pleasant. Surrounding windows were also dirty, broken, with cobwebs and dead bugs, and much pealing paint. Food was mediocre overall. Selection was small. My husband had the duck which he liked but felt for the price he would stick with Chinese take out. I had the tavern burger, which was nicely charred, but though the bun was toasted, it was cool, not warm, like it was sitting around waiting for the burger to finish cooking. Shrimp and spinach app was very good, except the deep fried spinach, greasy, made it hard to finish app. Deep fried Brussels sprouts were over deep fried so they had little taste left, and too greasy. Minimal finesse in the cooking. The service was very good and our waitress was very helpful and pleasant. Did I mention our margaritas literally tasted like dishwater with sweetener in it? Literally. The worst margaritas we ever had, didn’t finish them. Sorry, Millstream. Your website really belies the lack finesse and high end you try to portray there. Wouldn’t recommend and...
Read moreRuined our New Year’s Eve. Made a reservation weeks ahead of time and when we got there they seemed stressed to see us. Tried to put us at a little table in the bar away from the music and people and said we had to wait for a better table. No problem, we waiting about 15 minutes at the bar. Got our table in the dining room away from room with the NYE party that we actually made the reservation for. We didnt complain and placed our order and never saw our waitress again. We then waited an hour after ordering and an hour and a half after our reservation time to have to get up and ask at the bar for the status of our food. We were told the kitchen was slammed but watched as plate after plate came out of the kitchen and went into the party room. We said we would wait another 15 minutes before we would need to just leave. They send over a young lady (not our waitress) to apologize but no food. Understand that there was a preset menu and the first two courses were cold dishes so this should have been prepped, plated and ready to go and not have to take what was now over an hour. We decided to cut out loses and leave. Maybe we were ignored because we were not regulars there but quite a horrible experience overall. Thanks Millstream for completely ignoring us and...
Read moreA friend and I had dinner there on a Saturday evening in early May. We frequently dine out in the Woodstock area, had heard good things about this restaurant, and had been looking forward to checking it out.
We received a warm, gracious welcome from the host. When he asked where we were from, I told him the name of one of Woodstock's hamlets, hoping he'd recognize it and realize that, because we were not out-of-towners, if we liked the restaurant we'd probably be coming back often and would be recommending to our friends.
We were given a window-side table which offered a lovely view of the beautiful mill stream and it's surroundings. The wait staff was friendly. The food was exceptional, truly delicious!
But it took an unacceptably long time for us to receive anything to eat! There were 2 parties going on in a separate dining room, and apparently the kitchen was overwhelmed. There were small plates (the kind usually used for bread) on our table, but no bread was ever brought to us (and there was no mention on the menu that bread was available only upon request). Since we hadn't ordered appetizers, there was nothing to assuage our hunger while we waited for our dinners to arrive.
The bottom line: we won't...
