Well, our server was fantastic, my Benedict was fantastic, but buyer beware! The prices listed on the menu are not what you're charged.
We have not visited T&C for about 2 years. When they first opened, T&C was fantastic. Excellent baked good and amazing food, at a somewhat reasonable price.
Then, quality slipped and prices went up. Food was not good, often stale "fresh made" foccacia, cold food, and lousy service. So we stopped going.
My wife and I decided to go on a date breakfast. As we were trying to decide where to go we thought, "Let's give Town and Country another shot."
Inside has been remodeled, it looks very nice, and our server was very welcoming and friendly the entire time. I ordered the Not So Traditional benedict and my wife the Basic Breakfast. My benedict was outstanding and my wife enjoyed hers as well. On the menu, the price of my item was $10.95, and my wife's was $6.95. When we got the check, my breakfast was $11.99 and my wife's was $7.99 (See picture.)
Not a big deal, I thought to myself, probably just a point of sale or clerical error that would be fixed when we paid. When we got to the counter to pay, I asked the cashier to confirm the prices that were listed on the menu because I though we were charged the wrong price. The cashier handed the check to our server, who in turn checked with someone else (the owner I'm assuming).
Our server returned, seemed kind of shocked, and told us that the prices actually went up since the printing of the menu and that it states on the menu, "Prices are subject to change." Not, "we'll take care of it" or "we'll make it right," which would be the proper way to handle a customer service issue. That response from the owner is shady and shows a lack of integrity.
How many people pay their bill and don't even notice that there's a price difference? They're charging anywhere from 8%-15% more than what their menu states. If you had a big group, that would be a huge difference in your bill and they're not saying anything at all. If the server handed me my menu and told me the prices went up a couple bucks, I'd have no problem with it.
My response was to give the server her due tip, which was over 20% (wasn't her fault). I told them that those kind of inconsistencies and lack of integrity and customer aervoce drive customers away. Paid my bill and now I've completely had it with T&C. Three strikes you're out!
PRIOR REVIEW (From the last time we visited 2 years ago): Inconsistent. That's why T&C only get three stars. Sometimes the food is very good, and sometimes it's not worth the wait or price. The servers often seem overwhelmed and forgetful. It's OK to write down an order so you don't forget anything in a casual place like this. The male owner has made comments on several occasions when I've been there, to and about customers, that I find rude. I don't know if he does, but it appears based on what I've heard him say, he thinks his restaurant is the end-all be-all of Tracy restaurants. That in itself makes me not want to go there as much as I used to. If you read other reviews, other people have noticed the male owner's rude...
Read morePLEASE READ!!!! It took me a few days to write this post because of how shocked and disgusted I was with this place Town and Country Cafe and the people who work there, especially the owner. I never felt so mistreated in my life, EVER!!! My sister and I went there for breakfast with our three little ones five, three and two year olds. We arrived at 11:30am. A waitress named Dayna glanced at us four times without acknowledging us. No "I'll be right with you" or even a smile. We waited at the door until 12:15pm. After approaching her to be seated because there was a table with no one on it for a party of five exactly our size that was empty for 20 minutes, she said "HOLD ON", with a attitude and mean look! We then waited some more. Dayna passed by me and said "EXCUSE ME, CAN YOU MOVE OVER THERE?!" I couldn't believe how unprofessional and mean she was. Right then my instinct told me to leave but I didn't cause my kids were really hungry and needed to eat. We waited patiently. I asked to speak to a manager and a manager came. I told her what happened and that we've been waiting without being approached. She apologized and sat us down. I also told her how uncomfortable the waitress Dayna made us feel. She then apologized again and took our order. My kids ordered eggs, pancakes and bacon. My sister and I ordered with the manager also. While waiting for our food the whole atmosphere got really uncomfortable, Dayna whispering to other waitress and even the cook came out and looked at us. HOW AWKWARD!!!! After sitting there waiting for our food for 15 minutes the manager came out and bent down and said "I'm sorry the owner told me to tell you guys that we are unable to serve you." My mouth dropped! I wanted to cry. I felt turned away for no reason! I asked why and she said "I'm sorry I don't know why". She said that the waitress Dayna went back and called the owner and was really stressed and emotional person". What !?!? How does that have anything to do with me and my three young children that needed to eat!!! I didn't know where to put my face, we got up and left with our kids. While walking out our kids kept saying "but mom we order food, why are we leaving"? I didn't know what to say. I never like them to feel bad so I told my kids they ran out of food:( and that we had to go somewhere else:( when I got home I broke down my husband looked at me and flipped out. He asked me what was wrong and I told him. He then called the restaurant and asked for the owners information. They gave him the owners email and name Mike so my husband emailed him and asked if he can call him back. When the owner Mike called back my husband asked why he made the decision of kicking his wife and kids out. He said that the waitress Dayna was under distress and that he didn't know what to do at the time. That he was lost. My husband let him know that was the wrong thing to do. He told my husband I'm sorry and and my husband just hung up with him. I would never step foot in that place again! I felt judged and mistreated an unfavorable opinion and feeling formed beforehand, without knowledge,...
Read moreTown & Country was nearly 70% full between 0830 and 0930 on a damp and chilly Thursday morning. There were a lot of egg-based foods on the menu, but I was not in the mood for eggs. There's an egg shortage anyway. The prices have gone up, and that has been reflected in the prices on the menu. SMOKED SALMON TOAST it is, then. The dill cream was warm. Although I prefer fewer to no (red) onions, they were easy enough to remove. The BOWL of FRESH CUT FRUIT was a good size. At that price point, had the bowl been smaller, this review would have gone differently. The fruit was chilled, but not all of it was sweet. I did not mind, however. I ate all of the fruit. Server JULIA H suggested fruit vs. potatoes. The fruit was over 71% more expensive than the potatoes. JULIA H did a fine job with the upselling... She spent a few moments helping me decide what to eat. County MUSIC was playing (low) when I got there. I was unfamiliar with the artists; but then Tracy Chapman came on, and I am familiar with her. The musical selections did not create, nor did they enhance the ambiance in the café. I think that the sounds generated by individual conversations created more of an atmosphere than the music produced. The DECORE was unexpected. There was a bit of county-western. I saw a lasso and a "Tombstone" movie poster hung on a wall. A kind of country store-sitiation was happening behind me as I sat at the bar. You may or may not like the sundries (see pic) on offer. They do sell a deep-fried Focaaia...
