I visited this restaurant with my family for Sunday lunch, and it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Right after placing the order, they insisted I pay immediately, saying it was their "policy." They also told me if I wanted to order more later, I would have to place a completely new order.
We ordered Thalappakaati biriyani and a non-veg thali. The thali was a huge disappointment--it came with plain basmati rice that did not blend at all with the curries, which were bland and unappetizing.
The biriyani was even worse. The moment I touched it, I could tell it wasn't fresh. It was obvious they had taken it out of the refrigerator and reheated it--the meat was still cold inside! When I complained, the waiter took it away immediately, only to return much later after I had finished eating everything else. To my shock, they told me I had to buy a replacement because they have no refund or exchange policy. Why would I want a replacement biriyani after finishing my lunch?
When I spoke with the manager over the phone, he still refused a refund. He only offered to serve me another biriyani at that point, which was completely useless. Nobody even denied that they served me old food--what kind of restaurant admits this and still expects customers to pay?
I left frustrated, with money wasted and serious doubts about the safety of the food here. This place is not safe for health, and I would strongly caution others against visiting.
I am seriously considering filing a complaint with the...
Read moreNot happy with the food at all. I can make it at home better tasting dishes for the same they serve at the restaurant. It’s hard to believe that they charge so much for a less than mediocre tasting menu items. After eating at the restaurant I had stomach aches and full of gas & bloating. Either they are giving food prepared a week before or putting too much soda in their food items. It cold already when by the time they bring it your table. Some products are either too salty and the spice did not lend well with the fish. Funky smell on some dishes. Totally disappointed with this VJ’s kitchen. I would not go back again. I will definitely tell you, that you cannot compare this with good restaurants like Sakoon, mantra, Ullavacharu, Amber, Mylapur , Ruchi, and few other 4 plus star rated restaurants. I can still taste and smell the dishes & the memory of the yummy dishes they make at these restaurants. But I have a bad memory of food smelling yucky & weird at VJ’s. My hard earned money really not worth it. I can go eat at good taquerias in Tracy which taste million times...

This was hands down the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. First of all, the food made me violently sick — I ended up with food poisoning not even a day later. For a place that’s supposed to serve fresh, flavorful Indian food, everything was bland, greasy, and questionable at best.
The service was just as bad. I actually saw workers scolding a customer for tipping $5, which is completely unprofessional andembarrassing to watch. You don’t guilt people over tips, especially when the service is already slow and unfriendly.
And the hygiene? Absolutely unacceptable. While we were eating, I saw a rat dart across the floor, and when I went to the bathroom, there was literal poop smeared on the walls. Tables were sticky, floors looked like they hadn’t been mopped in weeks, and honestly, the whole place felt dirty and unsafe. For the outrageous prices they charge, this is beyond a rip-off. Between the nasty food, the disgusting conditions, and the rude staff, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and your stomach — go literally...
