Don’t be fooled by the name — this is not the Traveler it used to be. As an 11th generation upstate Greenville SC resident. I loved this place when it was family-owned and served true home-cooked meals, but that’s all gone now. The food tastes like frozen, microwaved dinners with no flavor or quality. I ordered the tried and true country style steak, (my all time favorite) which used to be tender and melt in your mouth, but this time it seemed like a frozen patty just reheated — so tough I couldn’t even chew it. The rest of the meal wasn’t any better, bland and disappointing across the board. It may still carry the name The Traveler, but the heart and soul of the restaurant are gone. The new owners (Stax) had better wise up, and up their game before this icon is gone. A good example to follow would be fellow TR restaurant, The Whistle Stop. Read moreI recently did a branding shoot for The Traveler and got to see a wide variety of the food they offer. I got to try some and it was delicious (the fried tomatoes are way better than you are expecting). The staff was also really kind and seemed to have great energy. The customers were also all really nice to me, which isn't always the case and I think that says a lot about the overall atmosphere of a restaurant. Definitely going to come back on...
