Original review from around March 2022: It's convenient location and they allow pets that's where the niceness ends. My low rating is not for the rooms or building it's in pretty good condition. It's for the mostly rude staff and the fee I was charged, I had one staff member who was nice, but she was complaining about how bad the job was and how she didn't need the stress. I in addition stayed for quite a while while I was moving, I stayed with a pet, they claim my pet used the bathroom and charged me $300, it's possible, but I didn't see it, isn't the useless$20 a night pet fee enough to cover that? I mean I've nothing against kids or toddlers, but why not have a fee on them too while you're at the crazy fees this place has, yes a lot of hotels charge fees, but I'd like proof. In addition to that I didn't receive maid service a few times while there, a few night I did use the Do not disturb sign, but there were a few times I did not and ran out of things, during my stay I had to go get towels myself. Overall the place charges WAY too much for a 2-star hotel per night, I've stayed here in the past 2020 and prior, it's changed hands a few times, recent hands run it heartless and money money, you're a number here, I never felt welcome. I'll likely not stay at this location again for future stays. *Update over a year since the stay August 2023 * I actually just became aware of the response from the owner a year after the fact and wanted to give a little update. I stayed at this locations roughly 2 weeks and the fee I was charged maybe a day AFTER I left. I tried seeing if there was anything to be done about that fee, I got hung up on by the hotel when I asked why I was charged a fee. They answered asked what room I was in under what name? They said, " give me a second" said the reason without letting me reply and hungup, I called back and reciever was picked up and set back down (that was last year when it happened). I took it up with the bank who also didn't do anything unless I had counter proof nothing happened, I said, "they have just as much proof of nothing because I couldn't get proof either" and I also didn't understand a nightly pet fee and room deposit was for if an additional fee was going to be charged anyway, I saw another comment on the reviews here that mentioned a fee for a chair being broken that they said wasn't, I honestly believe them as far as the fee goes. I would have throughly cleaned and sanitized the spot they claimed happened instead of the fee that was charged, if it happened at all, it really was their word that something even happened. Also fire alarm went off at least twice during that stay, I have video of that I could share here if they allowed video (it's currently photo only) and I also happen to remember that the freezer was so over frozen and in need of defrosting that the door could not shut and I had a puddle of water from the fridge and couldn't really use it during my stay and to top it off my room keys stopped working at least 5 times during my stay.
I still would NOT stay at this location again, despite previous positive experince, I would chock this bad visit up to new ownership and employees who didn't care/don't know and didn't get paid enough to care. I almost never leave bad reviews and try to be super understanding working in service and hospitality related industries, customers can be rough to deal with, but my business really did feel like a number, I don't expect the employees to care a ton because they're there to get paid and go home, but there was no care here at all.
Unrelated to this location I do tend to enjoy Best Westerns and stayed at one in Colorado recently, much better experince, front desk took care of everything there for me and even tried getting me discounts and bonus points, I got no points for the Travelers Rest location either now that I think of it, but oh well, plus I didn't get charged fees other than the one the city I was in required (all hotels had to charge it...
Read moreI had booked a room for two nights, due to travel in the area, well in advance. Just prior to arriving to check-in, I received a phone call telling me I was unable to check-in as it didn't appear there were any more rooms. I was already several hours away from home, and explained this to the person on the phone. Though they were relatively polite, they had a very thick accent and it was difficult to understand what they were saying. If I understood correctly, there were some carpeting issues that had taken longer than planned. Nonetheless, I obviously, as it was was a summer night on a Friday, had concerns about where I was going to stay for the evening as it was already getting late. The hotel acted as if it wasn't really a 'big deal' because they hadn't charged my card yet. The problem, of course, was me needing a place to stay. The hotel did nothing to help me find another hotel, and rather essentially said 'good luck.' They said they would call me back within a half-hour to check-in on me and let me know if there was a room that had come available. I never received another call. Thankfully, I was able to find a hotel about 30 minutes farther away (which made my weekend commutes in the area very lengthy.) I understand that circumstances can happen, particularly at smaller hotels, but there was no real effort made to help me in the situation that I had been placed in. However, I was left frustrated because:
The hotel contacted me about there not being a room at the very last minute rather than giving me a 'head's up.'
There were no efforts made to help me find another hotel, or even consider doing so, which left me scrambling to find a place to stay
It resulted in my trip being much more expensive than originally planned, spending both time and money on gas from a further location and being forced to stay at a nicer hotel than I otherwise would have
The hotel seemed much more concerned that they would be losing revenue from their lack of rooms than the situation they had placed me in - hours from home without anywhere to stay
I never received the call back that I had been told to expect
UPDATE: They responded to this review in a comment, with completely fabricated and false information. They were the one's who said they would call back, I did not suggest this. They did not, under any circumstances, offer to place me in a sister hotel. I did not demand staying in Travelers' Rest, and did not mention my commute to them. This is all lies to try to save their failing business. AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!
SECOND UPDATE: They continue to lie. Unequivocally, there was never, at all, an offer to place me at a sister hotel. Full stop. (If there was, by some complete misunderstanding on my part, I was unable to understand this through the thick accent - which is saying a lot considering I speak three languages and am usually pretty good with accents.) Had an offer been made for me to stay at a sister hotel, I would have gladly accepted it and all my problems would have been resolved. A price deduction for the inconvenience would have been a kind gesture, IF it was actually offered - it was NOT. The only reason I posted this review is because there was no effort to place me in another (sister) hotel, which is an industry norm. This review was given in good gesture for the hotel to improve their customer service; I have previously stayed at this establishment and had a wonderful time. I am an understanding guy, and completely understand that circumstances can happen outside of a hotel's control; what I could not understand is why I was not given help finding another hotel room. I called to speak with a manger, in order to clarify this situation, who was (apparently) too chicken to speak with me or call me back. Instead, they decide to post more below, attempting (in vain) to discredit my experience. Likely because they know they are lying. I'm truly starting to wonder if the other negative reviews below have...
Read moreVery terrible stay ! I have stayed here before it wasn't bad so i booked it again. This time was awful. The room was very dirty especially the floors. I had other guests messing with my vehicle on the first night and the 2nd morning people were being arrested in the lobby. Needless to say i was not comfortable staying there anymore. I booked through best western website for 2 days i stayed the first night but because of all of this i decided to check out on the 2nd morning. The front desk attendant was told me they had a 24 hr cancellation policy ( which most hotels have but this is for not showing up and they charge the first night ) he told me i had to pay for the 2nd night and would not reason with me so i told him i would speak to the manager. I have tried over and over to call for the manager no-one knows his schedule and i have received no calls. The funny thing is the receipt says he refunded the 2nd night but in cash. As i cant get a hold of anyone to explain this to me it leads me to believe he pocketed it. If i don't see a refund for the 2nd night or a get a phone call from the manager in a few days i will have to report it fraudulent to the CC company. --- I will write an update with what happens
Update - March 19/ 2025 Hotel States they have tried to reach me they have not once called. They just want to save face on the app. I have not received one email response other than an updated invoice to add an extra nights charge. I stay 300 + nights in hotels and i have stayed with many Best westerns and this is the 1st hotel in all of my years of travelling that is calling early check out a " cancellation " apparently they are desperate to steal from people. His response to my plans changed in the morning of checkout i didn't think it would be a problem to check out so i didn't see the point to tell him his hotel was a dirty trash hole. But in the future knowing that hotels are going play games i will be sure to tell them exactly how disgusting their hotel is so they don't try to steal from me. Lesson learned, my strong recommendation is to stay away from this hotel. Stay at...
