Over priced and overrated. Went in for a celebratory lunch with family during the week around 2:30-3pm. I understand this place isnāt typically known for the lunch hour, and it wasnāt prime hours, but we have had more beautifully plated and presented sushi at our local Asian holes in the wall. Spent over $400 ($100 a head) for less than average food and service. The special rolls came out looking like plopped ingredients. One of the beloved things about eating sushi is that it is visually art if done with care and intention. We ordered 4 soups (big miso soup people) which came out 7-10 minutes after our two other apps (soups were pretty bland and flavorless even with shrimp in it). Pumpkin soup was very bland too, was hoping for a touch of curry. Our table apps were the tuna tartare served with no rice crackers (as stated on menu) we had to ask for those once our waiter came by 15-20 minutes later to check on us, the other was the Vietnamese beef sliders which were very tasty. Now looking back, we had also ordered the chicken curry dumplings, and they never made it to the table. I ordered the no rice sushi which was fresh, but wasnāt served with ginger or wasabi like the other sushi served. I had to ask for that as well. We waited nearly 25-30 minutes for our server to check in with us and drop our check after our desserts/dessert beverages. Again, maybe the second table in the restaurant at that point.
The music playlist was just weird, and didnāt fit the vibes of the restaurant (90ās Britney Spears?) When we used the ladies room there was a used hair brush on the sink with clumps of hair on it. (We were the only table in there at the time, more staff than patrons.)
I really wanted this meal to feel special since we had just came from a bridal shop nearby, and to treat my mother who had just spent a lot of $ on my wedding gown and veil. With all of the great things Iāve heard over the years about Nectar, this was a big disappointment. If you are going to treat lunch guests like itās second rate or you donāt have the proper staff at that hour, maybe have a discounted lunch menu. First...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreš± Nectar - Berwyrn - It's been a long time since we came here - it such a great place for date nights, special occasions, large groups, sushi snobs and wine snobs. They have a very large wine menu and great sushi selection. Their food is a fusion of east and west (but more of a Japanese focus). Their atmosphere is upscale zen, very beautifully appointed large dining area with large buddhas at various places. We got the dim sum appetizer for 2 - the edamame dumpling was the standout here - just scrumptious! We got the jalapeno-infused pineapple martini and a I think a sake-lychee drink - both very tasty. š For entrees, š¦ the amish chicken with rock scrimp with lime and jalapenos and the tea-smoked salmon with pureed parsnips - the salmon dish was absolutely outstanding with smokey flavors and is worth coming here for this dish alone. For dessert, the chocolate valrhona tart ( you had me a valrhona! ) and the chocolate dome - I think straberry mousse covered with chocolate. The tart made our knees buckle. Our server was attentive and very friendly. š° I put on our Open Table reservation that it was our anniversary and didn't have to remind anyone and they brought little chocolate signs on our desserts celebrating that... very nice touch since usually when I note a special occasion in the reservation form it is never acknowledged. A very memorable and delicious meal in a beautiful dining room with really beautiful plating (I am such a sucker for a nicely plated dish!) I usually like to nitpick on my reviews so people don't think they are fake or I am being comped ( I wish!!!) but it was really flawless on so many levels ( taste, plating, decor, atmosphere, service) ... thank you to the staff at Nectar! You guys...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have gone here for years, but after this evening won't be returning. After finishing our appetizers, our main courses arrived and a dish was incorrectly prepared. When I explained this to the waiter, he proceeded to take an inappropriate tone saying I was somehow mistaken and "that the recipe was unchanged for years". The item in question was nectar fried rice and I had specifically asked it be prepared scrambled with the top portion of fried ginger egg mixed in (scrambled vs uncooked) with the rest of the meal. I have had this dish many times here before and it was never like this. Not preparing the gingered topped egg left it completely flavorless. I elaborated, and the waiter proceeded to double down about the "same recipe" and how I was "incorrect"; his overt dismissiveness was demonstrative of anything but appropriate customer service. I asked for the manager and he told me they were unavailable and then placed a menu on the table and told us to order something else. Why not fix the problem? I then went to the hostess and explained the situation. While she offered to change waiters, there was little that could be done given the owner not being there. We will never spend our money at a suppossed "5 star establishment" who allows their employees to speak to customers in such a dismissive way. Unbelievable lack of common sense. We had the rest of our entrees boxed and left. To be fair, the one correct action taken was the deduction of the rice from our bill. After years of being loyal customers, we will not be returning as there are many other restaurants we frequent who will be consistent in not only food quality but also in...
