We wanted a pizza that wasn't your same ole run of the mill pizza shop pizza. A friend highly recommended Berwyn Pizza so we made the 40 minute drive. While looking at previous reviews, I noticed Jim Pappas (if ya know, ya know) had gotten a cheesesteak from here and rated it pretty good so I just HAD to try one. We ordered our favorite large Pepperoni and mushroom pizza, a cheesesteak with mushrooms and fried onions, fries and three fountain drinks. The staff were very nice and helpful since this was our first time here. A gentleman gave us the low down to order at the counter, have a seat, we'll bring it out to you and you can pay after you've enjoyed your meal. The pizza was delicious and just what we were looking for. The crust was perfect. Tasty and a bit crispy but not dark by any means. The sauce was very good and there was plenty of pepperoni and mushroom covering the entire pizza. The cheesesteak was delicious as well. Plenty of meat, mushrooms and onions. I would prefer the cheese to be mixed in with the meat more but that's just my personal preference. The roll was nicely toasted and held the meat well. While paying for our delicious meal, we were chatting with who we believe was one of the owners of the shop. He said how they've been in business for 47 years and are currently third generation. All in all this was a great experience and WELL worth the 40 minute drive. We recommend Berwyn Pizza to anyone. Keep up the great work folks and thank you for a...
Read moreIt's been way way too long. Sure, diets & waistlines change, but how dangerous can an occasional visit be?
Planning on a few extra hours on the sweat circuit, I walk in last week and order a favorite from last century ... Italian Stromboli. Made fresh to order, the wait was usual - passed in a flash with a great audiobook courtesy of Libby :-)
And it arrived. DEFinitely knife and fork material in its dripping, piping hot goodness. What a crust - thin, delicate almost, perfectly browned. Quick work, the first half, even with no drink. As my Italian childhood chum taught me, "a beverage makes you eat faster".
The second half ... save or eat? Save or EAT ??? With no willpower, I continue. By this time, I can pick it up without being seared by the dripping oils. The Stromboli is a little saltier than I remember - they do NOT add salt - but that's probably because I stopped salting anything. It's lunchmeat.
What was new from the last ones I regularly ate in the late 1970s and early 1980s? Better crust. Healthier overall. No thick chewy extra dough. Just the right amount to hold the meat.
After effects? None. No indigestion from wolfing down 1.5 pounds of BP-Goodness. Days later, the indulgence of fats and salt was a thing of the past. A few good sweats, plenty of hydration, and I'm ready to make this a monthly visit! (I'm in rehab from 3-4x a week burp)
With a 20 ounce Coke to-go for the drive, the tab was $15.50 - a...

The Cheesesteak was above average and the Italian Hoagie was standard~
They have a nice dining area and the prices are decent for this Inflation Era.
Overall, I give everything a 4.5 Star out of 5. But why the 3 star rating?
As I went to pay, I noticed they charged me an extra 3.5% for using my card.
Now normally, most places that charge a fee for credit card usage have a minimum of $10 to $15, but mine was over $30, then I noticed that at the top of the elevated counter, there was a dark sticker indicating a 3.5% charge for credit card usage. You wouldn't see it, unless you were looking for it, because most merchants have this sticker on the FRONT of their counter to make it visible to customers.
I also let them know when i entered that it was my first time, so when I paid, they could have alerted me of the surcharge.
I also didn't expect an extra $2.75 upcharge for a small handful of fries to replace the chips that came with the order.
$40 for a meal for 2 at a pizza shop?
Unless you're one of the top spots like Angelos or Curly's, I can't justify the price.
I recommend coming for the cheesesteak,...
