Great place featuring entertainment many nights of the week [ Reggae; oldies; jazz, Rap ] specifically highlighting jazz plus good food on Saturday afternoon, from 3:30 to 7:30 pm, for a mere $10:00 cover. That mere sawbuck gets you access to BOTH, and a friendly atmosphere! First, it gets you in the door for four full hours of music entertainment featuring a first-rate jazz quartet, usually one thoughtfully cobbled together out of the Philly/Jersey/New York markets. Drinks at the bar are very reasonably priced and service is good, so you'll easily meet their expected $10.00 minimum as well. Hungry? No problem! The great music is supplemented by two food intermissions featuring Valerie's great cooking -- a salad & appetizer course after their first set, AND then a full dinner course follows a second set. You'll no doubt enjoy the friendly and diverse crowd of fellow jazz aficionados you'll meet there. And you'll marvel at the ample artwork, including many historic photos of past performers since the 'Light opened it's doors, fully 50 years ago -- way back in '67! Owners E.C Bradley (Brad) and his wife Valerie continue to offer top value and a friendly place, with free access to an adjacent parking lot for your convenience. This is the real place ... the one that you only imagined existed! Oh ... and if you play, throw your instrument in the car. Brad always encourages talented customers, especially young players, to sit side with the jazz group. And, he'll jump in too...
Read moreWent there for the first time . Born in raised in Orlando went to visit my girlfriend. And we decided to go to this bar. Never been there. So we proceed to go . When we get there didn't kno it was a cover charge to get in. And I was immediately told to as Bradley put it. Get to digging. Like who talks to someone that way as far as basically saying I need to hurry up and pay. Like I needed to be rushed . I don't like being rushed . Then the lady behind the bar who served us . Basically insulting me my girlfriend and basically any woman in my family. Saying because of my reaction to her telling me a story that was unnecessary. She said I never been with or been approached by a real woman . I immediately wanted to leave and by then the guy felt bad about what he said to me so he gave me 20 bucks as a way of him apologizing without really apologizing for what he said earlier.i accepted it and left. Never will go back o I forgot there was a 53 dollar tip. Wasn't told about one or nothing was said about it so I feel like It was deliberately taken . So mad. But I kept my cool. I don't recommend this place at...
Read moreLive Jazz every Saturday, from 3:30 to 7:30 pm ... usually featuring a quartet, and always consisting of 'A' level musicians from all around the NY/Philly/NJ region. This is truly one of the region's great jazz venues. A mere ten bucks gets you inside to a welcoming atmosphere, and to the full entertainment offering for that entire Sat. afternoon. Plus, it gets you fed, (first) a salad course during the first music break, and then (later on) the band will break again, and you'll be treated to a full meal, a hot, belly-bustin' course cooked to perfection by the crack Candlelight kitchen crew, served up cafeteria style. Owners E.C. Bradley and his wife Val have successfully run the place since buying it a little over a decade ago, though it's been a well-known jazz hot spot for half a century now ... since '67 or so. Drink prices are modest and it's always a friendly, diverse crowd of knowledgeable jazz fans. Musician patrons will be encouraged to jump in and play side, including established artists, or sometimes up and comers. You never know who you might see and hear play....
