Jean's Kitchen — Restaurant in Trenton

My husband and i ordered from this establishment last weekend thru doordash. We was very pleased. The food came hot and it was very fresh. This is hands down one of the best soulfood in the trenton/ewing area. It reminds me of north carolina. I had the fish platter with mac and cheese and yams. The fish was so good, I was able to eat it without hot sauce. Only minor complaint I have is, I wish I had one more piece. LOL. It was that good. My husband had the turkey wing platter and same sides as me and extra side of cabbage. He also thought everything was very good, just wished the portions was a little bigger for price. He gets same thing at a restaurant in south jersey for same price with bigger turkey wings. Prices are going to vary depending on where you are located. Also, the cornbread could be a little bigger. It was a tease. Lol. Very moist and delicious. But, they still get 5 stars from us. We enjoyed everything. Some places, the meats may be good but the sides are horrible or vice versa. I hope they keep up the good work. It seems like the chef/cook, cooks with passion. You can see it in the presentation and the taste. I wish them many blessings. ard to maker it home without wanting to take a bite. The restaurant was super clean both inside and out. I think it is a husband and wife that own and run it along with their daughter. What I typically find is that soul food places up north usually make good meats and proteins, but their sides are mediocre. Trust me when I tell you. Not this place. Jean's kitchen nailed everything. I ordered the fried bass platter candied yams and cabbage for my sides. The fish was a nice golden brown and fried to perfection. I hate to say it but the yams rival my Mama's, which that is not easy to do and the cabbage may be the best I tasted in forever. I also got a order of wings which were fried nicely as well, a little too salty for me, but I'm not really a fan of salt. It came with a piece of cornbread all I'll say about that is......THAT CORNBREAD UMMMM UMMM UMMM. The prices and portions are good. This will be my go to spot when I want to treat myself. This Place sucks the older lightskin condescending black lady at the counter who try’s to act sweet but really funny acting watches me and my girlfriend ponder over the menu for 15 minutes and when we go to order she tells us the only thing left is chicken why wouldn’t you tell us that when we first enter the restaurant?
