My partner and I have passed through Trinidad for work or play upwards of 15 times. Each time we are just passing through, and it happens to be at a time Sitas is closed.. every single time.
This time we were spending a few days in town and finally got the chance to eat here. The menu looked great, and the reviews were promising, but the meals we had this week still managed to exceed our expectations.
The atmosphere is better than any restaurant I have personally been to. Beautiful plants throughout, lovely art adorns the walls, and the puja alter in the back really brings the place together and facilitates an incredible energy inside.
We both had a falafel flatbread one day, and the BBQ jackfruit flatbread another day. A + on both sandwiches, and the BBQ sandwich actually had a little kick at a level 3 out of 5 spicy, if you're into that kind of thing.
Pumpkin cake was amazing. We bought one slice and it was served to us before the meal, which we love.... and afterwards we may or may not have bought 2 more slices for the road!
As people who travel often, it is officially a rule for us that if going through or near Trinidad, we will be intentional relative to Sitas dining hours.
Kind to our dog as well and brought her a water bowl both times.
Traveling as vegans can sometimes be less than simple. This place is absolutely golden, especially when you haven't had a healthy meal in days.
Thanks Sita's Kitchen. I can't recommend them enough for other vegans, or people who enjoy healthy and...
Read moreWe found this place on Google Maps after being desperately in need of vegetables after two days of junk food while on vacation. The owners were warm and hospitable, very informative on what to do and where to go in Trinidad. We ordered the roasted root vegetable salad, a falafel sandwich, and a cinnamon roll. Everything was delicious, balanced, and especially fresh. The falafel cannot be missed. It’s delightful and herbaceous and rooted in tradition. It’s also not deep fried (finally!). We agreed it was some of the best falafel we’ve ever had and that we would drive the 3.5hrs up from Albuquerque to eat that falafel again. The salad was scrumptious and filling. I’m a huge fan of their tofu ricotta and wish I could make it that good at home. The sauces and dressings are made in house and I especially loved the creamy tahini dressing. Store bought salad dressing grosses me out so it’s important to me that restaurants make their own. The fresh baked cinnamon roll was also a hit. Miraculously not too sweet, very cinnamon-y, and they served it warm so it was extra gooey. The restaurant is clean and well kept, super comfortable and spiritual atmosphere, and if you’re like us, you’ll be happy to know that they have some patio seating options as well. As soon as our meal was finished, I was able to pet two friendly dogs and I don’t take that for...
Read moreBe extremely careful when calling this place to order ahead. They do not clarify whether you are ordering whole sandwiches or sides when you call in.
I specifically said “I do not want sandwiches, I am going to drive highway 12, I just want the innards” and he seemed to understand.
This is also evidenced by the fact that he gave me no dollar total and NEVER ASKED if I wanted chips or flat bread.
So, when I added some desserts and paid, I was gobsmacked to find a $94 order for 4 sandwiches I specifically said I didn’t want when I called.
When presented with this conundrum, the owners crossed their arms, leaned back, and acted like it was my fault. The man insisted he read it back.
But, I told him I didn’t want sandwiches and he never asked if I wanted chips or flat bread, which he would have if that’s what I had ordered.
It’s a shame their online ordering can’t be used, I guess it keeps them from grifting. Shame on y’all. I’m sorry business is tough, but $100 on lunch for two when I specifically said “no sandwiches” when you can’t clarify your own menu isn’t the customer’s fault.
I will not be back, I will be tossing the goods and calling my credit card company. Their chance to rectify this was right then and there and they crossed...
