We visited a newer Troy restaurant on what is now our favorite "block on River St". Saturday July 8, 2023 9:20am. You need to be your best to make it in this neighborhood that features established places Ryan's Wake, Brown's Brewery & Taproom, Dinosaur BBQ, and Troy Beer Garden. And we're pleased to tell you that Oh Corn! Arepas is convincing those that try them to return again & again. Opened in April 2023 next to Brown's Revolution Hall. The owners are Belkis Castro & Jose Theoktisto. We were greeted and served by Belkis herselfThis is a two story dining place with a patio on ground level facing the riverwalk. Note: they serve authentic Venezuelan food. Their arepas are slightly different from the Columbian style like mozzarepas. They serve a variety of handhelds and dinners featuring the star of the show - the "100% white corn bread Venezuelan pocket sandwich". We had the Perico Arepas - scrambled eggs w/ sofrito veggies ($12.50), and one w/ black beans (caraotas) ($13.75). Served with 4 choices of sauce from mild to hot and the crispiest plantain chips we ever head. We should have asked to purchase a bag of the chips for munching on our next stop to the Troy Farmers Market (could be another review). They also offer tostones (fried slices of fresh plantains), empanadas, cachapas (sweet yellow corn pancakes), & patacones (green plantain sandwiches). Lots of foods to explore here on future visits. Hours: Tue-Sat 9am-9pm, Sun 10am-3pm. Plenty of free public parking on evenings & weekends. This was a great introduction to authentic Venezuelan cuisine-tasty, hot, well prepared & presented by their team. This would be a fun place to go as a group so you could try a variety of apps & arepas. Also serve tropical fruit juices, but no alcohol. We had an excellent first visit and the service was great. Thank you Belkis & Jose. We'll see you again soon. Nick &...
Read moreI'm so glad that Oh Corn! exists and is so close to me. We loved eating at their tables outside with a view of the river. My wife had a carne mechada cachapa with a guanabana drink and i had a chizpazo cachapa (with chick peas, plantains, and mushrooms) with coffee. The cachapa itself was amazing, exactly what we wanted, sweet, soft, a little crumbly, perfect. The carne mechada was seasoned amazingly and the guanabana drink was a real treat. The sauces that came with the meal were delicious and allowed us to try a variety of flavors, we liked them all. Two constructive suggestions I would like to offer are that the picture of the Carne mechada cachapa has beans, tomatoes, and avocados in it, but we were served one with just meat. It was still delicious, but we were expecting more, and we didn't see any options for adding those items for extra money, I don't see anything like that on the online menu, but maybe i missed it. The other thing is my chick peas and mushrooms were very bland, like they were just scooped out of boiling water, and the plantains did not contribute much to my memory of the dish. I was able to use a lot of the delicious side sauces to flavor them, but I just want to encourage restaurants like Oh Corn! to get as creative with the seasoning of their veggie dishes as they do with their meat dishes. It was still a great meal and I plan on going back, but I will probably try another...
Read moreHad this place with a friend when they were at Troys market in the summer time a while ago but was sad they closed for a bit! So happy to see it reopened so me and my fiancé ordered today from UberEats! Just fantastic. I think we’re going back tomorrow and I wish I had tried more menu items for today!
I dined in recently after exclusively getting this place from Ubereats. Food has always been soooo good, so I was interested to see how it would be for a date night. My fiance and I love to go out for a fun night, good food and even better drinks, so after seeing Oh Corn got a liquor license, we tried it out at their location. The food was A1 as we knew it to be and is never a miss, so much love and flavor! The drinks were still being developed, comparable prices to places in the area—they seem to still be working out the cocktail menu, which is understandable, but the location is so awesome, we just went a bit down the street to find some great drinks after a tasty dinner from Oh Corn! We gave some feedback about the drink menu in the making and I think this place is ultimately a place to be reckoned with once they get their cocktail...
