Gumbo Dude Food Truck — Restaurant in Truro Township

I'll start with I travel to Columbus from the deep South regularly so I know what a good bowl of gumbo is. Perhaps I'm a little spoiled but I want to give an honest review however, this is just my humble opinion. The two orders of Gumbo I received were watered down to a soup consistency. Gumbo in the South is thick like chowder. With a little more roux or a little less liquid added it would have been really good. All the flavors of the South were in there and really tasty. Also the shrimp in the gumbo pictures on the website are nice and fat like gulf shrimp used down South. What I received in my 2 cups was closer to popcorn shrimp. But it was still shrimp so I was okay with it and since I was in Columbus the selection of shrimp may be limited so I suppose you have to settle somewhat for what is available in the local area. The workers were nice and told me the owner was from Bama so I knew he knows good gumbo.. The price was about the same as what I pay down South so no complaints there. I'll be passing through Columbus again in about a week or so and will stop in for a second round. Perhaps I got served from a fresh pot that didn't have time to cook down and thicken. All in all it was really tasty so give them some support by trying something of the menu and see what you think. After I try round 2 I'll upgrade my review if the gumbo is a little thicker and the shrimp is like the size pictured. If not I'll just try other things that are on the menu to see what I like best. I kept it simple and ordered a burger with grilled onions and peppers with a side of okra. I know the okra wasnt made from scratch, but it was still delicious because he sprinkled some special seasoning on to make it special. The burger was delicious and the remoulade sauce that was drizzled on really took it to the next level. The Gumbo Dude's friendly and hospitable demeanor made the whole experience quite nice. He also gave me a taste of his homemade peach raspberry lemonade which was delicious and refreshing, even though I dont care much for raspberry. I will definitely go back and try some other items. The food looks just like his pictures. And you wont be short changed on the meat and topping. Most importantly, I can tell he's cooking everything with love and that matters! Plus he'll make it however you want it so you leave satisfied....

The food was amazing and the owner was even better! I'm a picky eater and he asked questions to understand what I would like on top of that he gave me sample of the gumbo and the dirty creek water so I could make sure I like it. I initially ordered the lobster and he walked through it with me and ending up given me a better option even though the lobster would have cost more. Can't...
