Updated review: Now I know that when I go here I should get the burrito bowl bc that is delicious! I got the large tofu bowl and added fresh jalapenos, cilantro, and grilled onions (extra charge) all for $9.99, lol. This bowl was very flavorful and had great proportions. The amount of rice, beans, cheese, and toppings made the perfect blend, you get a little in each bite. I wasn't sure how big the large was going to be but it was the right size for me, half for dinner, half for lunch. If you come get the the bowl, you won't be disappointed! Also they now have the impossible 'meat' which is great for those of us who don't eat meat.
Original review: My dad noticed this spot before me bc it's located across the street from our mechanic. My dad had a buy one get one entree coupon so we decided to give it a try Monday for dinner. I had planned to get a burrito and then when I saw they had nachos on the menu I decided to get those too. Your food doesn't come with too many toppings and the toppings you're use to adding at no extra cost do cost. The nachos come with jalapenos and queso cheese. I added pulled chicken ($1.50) and cilantro, lettuce, and tomatoes at no extra cost then paid $0.50 for grilled onions. For my burrito I got grilled chicken with cilantro and fresh jalapenos. It came with pinto brand, melted jack cheese, and rice. Both to go. I was disappointed with both items. For the nachos they use corn tortillas and they got soggy before I was able to enjoy them. When I asked for lettuce I was expecting shredded lettuce but instead it was larger pieces, like for a salad. The meat, on both items, was flavorless. You could barely tell there was cheese on the burrito, and the toppings I'm use to getting weren't there or were an additional cost. But I did appreciate the size of the queso for the nachos and that it was included. I may go back and try the tacos bc number 1 I love tacos, number 2 the cashier said they were her favorite. But other than that I...
Read moreI'd like to give helpful feedback because I want to see local businesses thrive. I saw a food influencer post about this restaurant and it looks delicious I thought I'd give it a try. I'll start with the positives. Kind staff, cute patio and inside seating. Prices are decent and the queso dip is good. The brisket itself was decent, but very small portion in the "regular" size bowl. Unfortunately the rest of my food was very bland. I got the brisket bowl with potatoes instead of rice and a large side of tortilla chips and queso. The beans tasted canned, were a bit firm/undercooked and had no seasoning at all. The potatoes tasted boiled and also very under seasoned as was the rest of the bowl (minus the small bit of shredded brisket). Adding hot sauce did help it tremendously but it was very bland on its own. The tortilla chips were definitely packaged chips from the grocery store, not fresh. I'd recommend sautéing the potatoes more (no boiling) and adding more seasoning. Please consider making fresh beans (and season well) and tortilla chips (or maybe a better quality packaged tortilla chip if sticking with store bought). I think that would help it out a lot. Could have been an off day, but hard to tell with this being my first visit on a Saturday afternoon. I was the only customer there at the time, they weren't busy. I've noticed some similar reviews regarding blandness.
I would not come back for the food, but might try a drink on the patio some day and see if that is a better experience. Best of...
Read moreDisappointing at best. I realllly had a craving for nachos and my friend couldn't stop raving about the burritos, so I was all in. After looking at the menu, I opted for a burrito bowl and a salad.
Salad - I was expecting a lush green salad, but my bad: what I received was limp green iceberg (what???) lettuce with seven (unevenly cut) chunks of tomato. Some of the lettuce was brown around the edges. I opted not to bother eating it, as I like my salads fresh and crisp.
Burrito bowl - The pulled pork burrito bowl also left much to be desired. The pork was poorly seasoned, the amount of beans was TINY and the rice was undercooked. In addition, the fresh jalapeños weren't provided.
Steak tacos - I ordered for my daughter but didn't look great and 1.5 of the two tacos are still uneaten.
Service - staff was just…there. The man at the register seemed to be having problems, as I watched one customer return to correct his order (that should have been my warning).
As I said, I was really disappointed, as I wanted to prefer them over the nearby chain, but this food tasted like everyone in the kitchen was just over the work day and ready to go home. They did apologize for the long wait, but eating food that tastes like Necessity doesn't cut it.
I'm glad I didn't order Nachos and unfortunately will hit the chain next time I'm here; I expected WAY more from a place that advertises "Mission Style Burritos" - but perhaps a burrito is the only thing I should...
