This is my go to coffee shop. I spend most of my time here.
The building itself is cool. Lots of windows and wood beams. Very unique. There are plenty of tables with an upstairs area with more tables and two couches. Sometimes it can be hard to find a table around finals week but one usually opens up quickly if not immediately available. The bathroom is small but is usually kept very clean. They also have artwork on the wall featuring a different artist each month and decorate for different holidays. They usually have pandora playlist going that usually depends on the barista working at the time. Nothing offensive though. Most of the time its classic rock or alt music. Wifi is very quick and rarely ever lags. Lots of outlets everywhere. There is ample parking. If there is no spots in the Black Crown parking lot I just park in the lot between Korea House and Gnome music.
The baristas at Black Crown are awesome. All very friendly. They always know my drink and sometimes even will have by the time I walk in if they see me pull up. Scott, the owner, is usually there and he is pretty friendly too.
The coffee at Black Crown is on par if not better than all of the other coffee shops in town. They roast their coffee in house and have recently partnered with Black Market Tea to create tea repertoire that is absolutely unrivaled in Tucson (my personal favorite is the high octane earl grey). Prices are fair and consistent with the rest of Tucson. I usually get an iced 20 oz mocha w/ whip and it runs me $5.13.
Black Crown Coffee is the overall best coffee shop in Tucson. They do...
ย ย ย Read moreI've always loved Black Crown and never had a bad experience until Sunday 7/18. I went to get a coffee like I had many mornings ago. Some folks were sitting inside minding their business. Then suddenly some old white man came in, and approached another man sitting alone in a booth reading a book and sipping his drink. This old man started berating him and telling this guy trying to read a book all of his military credentials. The guy reading the book looked up from his book, and thanked the old man for his service, and stated that he had also served. This somehow further angered the old man who decided to state all the things he hated about various latino gangs. The guy reading his book tried to nicely plead to return to his book. The old man grunted and took the booth beside his. I asked the person making coffee if they were watching this exchange. It was clear they were kinda distracted, but then they finished making a drink, and I tried to fill them in and ask if they were going to say anything to make the patron who was sitting inside reading feel safer. The person making the coffee said that if it didn't escalate there was nothing they could do. I was so disappointed. I was just in and out getting a coffee, but I hope that patron felt safe having another customer who just verbally abused them sit down in...
ย ย ย Read moreYou won't find any other place like this in Tucson! Not only is the coffee good, but this is a place that is outside of home, work and shopping. This is what's called a third place, aka a place for people to simply meet & hang out (if you buy a coffee of course!) This place is a safe haven for studying college students, young professionals and freethinkers alike. Think of coffee shops from the Netherlands, France, and other parts of Europe. This place is directly reminiscent of those places. We need more places like black crown. America doesn't have enough places that are built simply as meeting/hangout spot, and that's why I really appreciate this place. I should also mention it is very cozy here! The atmosphere doesn't feel like a business, it feels very homemade, very relaxed, like you're hanging out in your friends backyard. Last thing I should mention is there is $1 refills on any size drip coffee, so you can drink to your heart's content! Seriously, if you're a young student or professional who appreciates community-oriented spaces, then you have to check...
