Ample and abundant on-site parking was available. Immediately and warmly welcomed upon arrival. I was seated almost immediately without issue. I visited during peak lunch hours and the dining room was practically a vacant ghost town. One can only guess that people in the know vote with their feet and no longer subject themselves to this place. It's obviously now running only on fumes. The lunch menu appears to be large with abundant and numerous choices, all of which sounded delicious. I ordered the trusted beef Lo Mein, fried wontons, fried rice and egg flower soup. The lunch menu offers rice so when the server inquired if l wanted white rice or fried rice l went for the fried rice without further thought. It was only later with the presentation of the bill did l become acutely aware of the unexplained and unexpected upcharge. I really felt it's only $1 but it's also extremely deceptive, disingenuous and borders on being questionably dishonest to upsell without advising of the additional charge. It came across as a tacky and a greedy misstep that probably should never have happened. I found the way it was mishandled far outweighed the original trespass. By time l departed it had left a bad taste in my mouth. A review of previous reviews documents a long almost endless list of such willful, deliberate and intentional abusive transgressions. The food was decent and issue free. I especially enjoyed the egg flower soup and found it delicious. I found the condiments tray to border on being filthy and question if the incredibly sticky pepper shaker has been recently cleaned at any point in this decade or the one before. The soy sauce bottle lid was equally disgusting. The AC seemed set too high and the interior was noticably warm. Not uncomfortable, but warm on an already hot Arizona day. Service was decent and my water was never allowed to run dry which was truly appreciated given the temp of the dining room. Overall I was not dissatisfied in my dining experience, but I wasn't remotely impressed and by mid meal had regretted my visitation decision. I definitely won't be returning in this lifetime, thus avoiding getting institutionally hosed for the extra buck for the fried rice. Tucson is full of far better places to enjoy tasty Chinese food at without the deceptive hidden charges. Skip this one, your not really...
Read moreAfter reading yelp and Google reviews, we were in the area and decided to try this restaurant for dinner. We were not let down! To really learn if a Chinese restaurant is worth it, you need to order a la carte. So we did.... The won tons and the egg rolls were standard fare and a nice appetizer. We also got the hot and sour soup and the old lady loves it, which is rare. I too, give it a warm hug! A definite winner any time. Moving to the food, we got a well rounded order, bbq pork fried rice, szechuan beef, Kung pao veggies and lemon chicken. Growing up in the san Francisco Bay area, I compare Chinese food to the mecca of the cuisine. We have not had better bbq pork fried rice since Moving to arizona. This was as superb as anything in Chinatown. The beef and sauce were perfect. Tender, right amount of sweet and heat, crisp veggies, and filling. The veggie dish was perfectly sauced and wok fried. Cashew and peanut too, for a bit of fusion flavor and texture. Amazing on the palette. But I save the very best for last. We have eaten at some of the best Chinese restaurants California has to offer. This lemon chicken blew the doors off of any prior. Amazing, lemony, crisp, not very gluten-y, fresh and tart while being full bodied with chicken meat and flavor. Bonus points for really great fresh iced tea! After all that, we started talking with the staff including our terrific waiter Kevin, and it's NO WONDER the food was so familiar!!! They are from San Francisco North Beach! Home cooking so far from home is a true diamond in the sands of the desert! We will call China Szechuan our Chinese food home from now on! Eating here will make you happy and...
Read moreWoow! I'm so happy this restaurant is in Tucson. I love Chinese food since I have my Chinese girlfriend in Seattle where are a lot of Chinese people and of course good Chinese food. When I first came to tucson I was a little sad because I thought I won't have good Chinese food anymore like in Seattle with my sweet girlfriend . I found this restaurant got the best reviews on yelp and I said let me give it a try. It blew my mind. Even my girlfriend when she visited me I brought her here and she loved it. It is not the best Chinese restaurant I have been to(because I have in too many) but it is definitely one of the top five. My girlfriend misses it so much now! This restaurant is cheap but not in the the prices that are on the menu it is cheap because the amount of food they give is big and I always can't finish it and pack at least one meal. Most of the dishes here are spicy because Szechwan is a part of china where there are lots of spicy food . So you can say it is what China Szechwan specialized at. (Spicy Chinese food.) However there are some dishes that are not spicy . Like shrimp fried rice. Wooooooooow ! It is the best friend rice I have ever had ! Read! U should go to China Szechwan only to try...
