I've eaten here numerous times before and have always been very pleased with all aspects of the previous experiences. Today however l just didn't find the experience favorable. I ordered the pan fried dumplings as an appetizer. I found them marginally over cooked, while not burnt, the edges were dried out, well beyond crispy. I had the beef fried rice as my entree, and while l found extremely flavorful, l also found it to be excessively greasy and the beef was of a noticably poorer quality then l had experienced on my previous visits. The beef was extremely fatty and excessively full of grissle. Dso's hasn't exactly been shy on aggressively jacking up thier prices, but l truly feel that they've also willfully, deliberately and intentionally diminished thier food quality. Sadly that's simply abusive in my view. Do one, but not both. I don't know my servers name, the service was fine, without issue and l truly never needed anything, but the entire interaction was socially awkward, he doesn't come across as remotely genuine. Sadly it's been that way anytime he's been my server. I found the dining room to be clean and free of any issues. I observed the staff promptly remove dishes once a customer left and the tables were immediately cleaned and wiped down. Once upon a time this was a favorite place of mine to go, a true hidden gem, but high prices, dismal low food quality and awkward service have achieved the goal of making me look elsewhere for my future meals. There visually seems to be an obvious excess of unsheltered people hanging around this establishment. At least l wasn't panhandled while attempting to enter or leave. Sadly this place has severely gone down hill and is no longer an establishment that l would recommend visiting.
On the bright side, the Wilmot location still sells...
Read moreAbsolutely awful experience, from the second we walked in to the second we left. We arrived a little after 8 pm, and as soon as I told the woman at the counter we wanted a table, she asked if we could finish by 9, when they closed, so it felt like we were already being judged just because of when we showed up. We got a table anyways but were rushed through everything, from ordering to eating. I don't feel like either of us really had the food we wanted because we didn't have enough time to weigh all the options on the menu.
As we were eating, we were trying to talk, but the staff kept cleaning around us and starting to close the restaurant down, even though their sign said they closed at 9, and it was not 9 yet. The same woman who seated us made it clear that she wanted us to hurry up and pay, which we did but we knew it wasn't as fast as she would have liked. Everyone else who worked there was sitting around waiting to leave, so they wanted us gone right at that moment.
After we had finished eating and paid, we walked out but no one said anything to us, not even a thank you. The very second we were out the door, they turned the lights off, and by that point it was barely 9. I get it that sometimes customers will stick around too long, but they said they closed at 9 and we did leave at 9. If they were so concerned with actually closing the restaurant all the way down at 9, they should have said they closed at 8:30 or even 8, to make everyone know when they wanted the last order in by. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had, and even though I was considering visiting their other location before, I can say now I definitely won't. My money does not need to go to...
Read moreFriendly place with a nice menu! We came in for a late lunch so the restaurant was pretty much empty. We started with an appetizer and a order of chicken satay that came with a delicious peanut sauce. While waiting for our entree, enjoying the flavors of the food already served to us, in walk 2 officers and were seated a table away from us. (Remember pretty empty restaurant) I'd say their radios were blasting! One dude (oops, I mean officer) was even chatting away on his phone! I asked the server if they the officers got their food to go and was told no they are eating here. "So I have to listen to the radio chatter while I eat?" and the server just shrugs. Totally missing my cue for him to ask the cops (Dang it! I mean officers) to turn down their radios. Leaving the task to me... 49 years living in LA dealing with the bloods, crips and all the other gangs out there INCLUDING the LAPD has given me plenty of reasons to hate the police. So after having to ask the fascist pigs to turn down their radios, I also asked for a box to go and took my yet to be eaten entree home...
...so after a minute in the microwave, the pad thai was delicious! I really recommend it! But now there's a black van posted up down...
