Lots of room for improvement.
Figs is next to the frost gelato on tanque verde, parking was decent I was able to find a space no problem.
MAKE A RESERVATION- this can be done via google.
It’s really cute inside, I loved the decor!
The menu is well done and not overwhelming.
We had a 6pm reservation and they don’t really mark off tables they just move you to the front of the line so if you have a reservation be prepared to wait a bit for a table to open up. We maybe waited about 5-8 min.
The service could be improved, they are still working out the kinks. They had servers go all over the restaurant, outside, bar, inside. They didn’t have sections to which our waiter Billy really seemed passionate about trying to make sure we got our food and could check in and assured us he was going to talk to management about changing how things were done because the service really lacked unfortunately and not due to Billy not paying attention but just the workflow he was given. Dishes varied in temperatures, my mom had bolognese that was legitimately cold like not Luke warm but cold. I think this was the timing from the short rib I had because my dish was hot and fresh, the two others that came with had like warm food but we were all really hungry by the time food came. My mom took her pasta to go because no one came and checked on us during the entire meal and I actually had to get up and find our waiter to let him know we had cold food. We did get a free desert because of the cold pasta and they do offer 10% off right now anyway probably due to the known growing pains.
It took about 2 hours total for just 4 people start to finish just because of service and timing issues.
Now let’s talk about the food itself.
We had 3 appetizers, the whipped ricotta, charred Brussels, bread and spread. So these are VERY small they probably feed two people, the whipped ricotta comes with 3 slices of bread so not even 4 people could have one slice but the flavor was good and definitely delicious.
The charred Brussels was also a portion size for 1-2 maybe 3 if you stretched it. Normal Brussels you’d get anywhere I wasn’t wowed by them.
The bread and spread was a last minute add due to hunger and it was maybe half a baguette and a butter composed of scallions in it. Bread was warm and fresh but definitely small.
Main courses!
The star of the show was the braised short rib, very flavorful, tender, carrots cooked perfect on a bed of mashed potatoes honestly an excellent dish.
The gnocchi was great! Smaller portion size but flavor was on point.
Fettuccini was great as well pretty well done dishes overall
The desert was phenomenal, the lemon cello cake was PERFECTION it had a whipped icing, good lemon flavor and wasn’t overly sweet and definitely shareable!
Overall they are going through growing pains and have tons of potential I will probably be back in 6 months to give them another shot. They need better sized apps for the price and to get their timing right so everyone...
Read moreWe went out of our way to try FIGS and give it a shot, hoping it would be a great new addition to Tucson’s dining scene. The food was good, the appetizer that really stood out was the cauliflower tahini, it was excellent. The salad I ordered also had a generous portion. The restaurant itself looks beautiful, and you can tell they put effort into creating a slightly upscale, modern vibe.
Unfortunately, the service didn’t live up to the same standard. Our waiter Peyton wasn’t very attentive; he took our order, disappeared until the food arrived, and only came back again to drop off the check. With only about five tables in the afternoon… we were surprised by how slow things were. He didn’t seem very experienced, which made the whole experience feel a bit neglected.
We ordered the cheese pizza as soon as we sat down because my child was hungry. However, after about 20 minutes, the manager came over and apologized, saying they had to start a new one because the first didn’t meet their quality standards. That was disappointing to begin with, and by the time the pizza arrived, my child was already cranky, and I had to get creative to keep him entertained. For a small eight-inch pizza priced at $13, the delay made it feel even less worth it. The bread/butter that comes early on was a nice gesture, however the bread is not tasty and might be the cheapest bread I’ve tried sadly… anyway this place has a lot of potential because the food is tasty, but the service needs to be elevated for people to want to come back. I wish the owners the best, because with some improvements, this place could definitely grow into...
Read moreI had dinner at Figs last night. I had the Sumac Sour and the short ribs. The Sumac Sour was fabulous! The carrots with the short ribs were the best carrots I've ever had in my life! They were multi-colored and had a glaze sauce on them--superb! The short ribs were good, a tiny bit dry. The potatoes were super and what really made the whole thing was the sauce!!! It was MARVELOUS!! Katelyn was a great server--very attentive! Finn was SUPER helpful! He saw that I'd dropped my knife and came over to help. And then helped with the table. It wasn't level and rocked every time I tried to cut the short rib, sloshing everything. He went above and beyond to fix it, even flipping it to put the leg back on. He's definitely an asset to the restaurant!! And they have a wonderful actress working there, Tess! She was in Sister Act at Arts Express and stole every scene she was in! The assistant manager and an owner both stopped by to ask how things were. It was a great first visit!...
