Gyro King — Restaurant in Tucson

We drive 20 minutes one way to order the gyro plate. The website says it comes with gyro, rice sald, pita, tzatziki. This is our FOURTH time ordering here. Husband place order online at 5pm. Website said order will be ready for pick up in 15 minutes. He arrived at 520p, order was ready at 537p. The four prior visits we received all items mentioned and a 1.5 tablespoons of humus. We did not request the hummus. Since it came with all the prior meals we assumed it came with it. Do not really care about the hummus, but we LOVE TZATZIKI!!! Our order today neither plate had tzatziki. I called and asked what happened. Woman on the phone said we gave you hummus instead. I said we order the gyro plate as stated on your website. She says, "everyone asks to replace the tzatziki with hummus. We give you more hummus than tzatziki". I said again, we ordered what your website describes please. I ask how do I receive tzatziki? She says It is a special request. Image of their menu online included here. We will not be going back. She did offer we could drive 20 minutes there and pick up a sauce and then 20 minutes home. Really bummed. So if you want tzatziki ask for it because the website description of the gyro platter...

I love and miss getting my gyro platters, in Phoenix, from Z's. Now I'm on the hunt, in Tucson. Gyro King is close, according to Google Maps.

Haha! Gyro King was difficult to find, at first. It's a restaurant located inside another restaurant.

It's cozy and small but neat. Empty so my order was taken quickly. I ordered two gyro sandwiches and 2 fries. Cost $33.75. Ouch!

Ok maybe it'll make up in quality and taste. NOT! Teaspoonful of tzatziki spread on pita. Given an abundance of wilted lettuce and paper thin tomato slices. The meat cut in cat food sized cubes. It was hard to taste the meat cubes for choking on the lettuce and tomatoes.

The fries were cut into narrow strips. The flame must've been too high as they were overcooked and outright burnt in other places.

We discovered this place by chance during our first visit, and it was incredible. The service was exceptional; the lady who assisted us, who I’m not sure was the owner, was incredibly warm and welcoming. She even shared a date appetizer she had prepared for the employees, which was not meant for customers. She was so delighted to offer it to us, and it was delicious. We ordered the Gyro sandwich and the Gyro plate. Both were fantastic, but the Gyro plate had a unique presentation (see photo). The meat was tender and juicy, the rice was perfectly spiced, and the combination of all the ingredients was simply perfect. Do yourself a favor and check...
