Expensive, low quality sushi. Awful service. Long waits.
I can stand long waits and bad service if the sushi is good. But at Izumi they make you wait for terrible sushi and they don't even give you napkins or chopsticks.
When we got to Izumi, we stepped inside the hot lobby, waiting to be seated with other people who were waiting for their backed up take out orders.
The interior design looks like a sports bar and the atmosphere felt uninviting and drab.
It took 5 minutes for someone to even register that there were people waiting but the restaurant was nearly empty with just two tables and 4-5 servers.
The frenzied host/server/bartender hurriedly greeted and sat us and brought us drinks. They were out of cocktail ingredients so the guy made us a double strength margarita and a beer.
The server ran around like crazy but never seemed to be doing anything. After he took our order, he never refilled our waters and never brought us napkins and chopsticks, didn't update us on our order, nor did he offer edamame or miso. Just really uninviting and shoddy service from the get go.
We just sat there then for about 45 minutes and nothing came out. There was only one sushi chef and he wasn't communicating with the wait staff.
After an hour, a dried up sushi roll landed on our table but we still had 3 more to come, so we decided to cut our losses and take the rest to go.
I can tell you that the sushi they make here is awful. The rice was dry and flavorless; the center of the roll was just one of those imitation crab meat sticks. The fish on the outside was not cleaned and looked old and smelled funny. It was honestly worse than 7-11 sushi.
All of that for $64 plus tip AND the server got my order wrong and left out a sushi roll, which was for the best considering the rest of the sushi tasted disgusting.
Don't waste your time or your money.
Izumi, if you read this, for the love of God, get your...
Read moreI've been to this place several times and was always able to order what I wanted. Not tonight. We decided to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday here. We ordered the boat and some appetizers. When ordering the boat the menu says there are various sashimis, nigiri, and two select rolls. We chose our two select rolls and waited for our food. Our server came back to clarify that we wanted those two rolls with our boat and not extra. We said yes. With the boat. She then came back to inform us that the two select roles would be the chef's choice. However the menu didn't say this. We clarified that we would just like the roles that we selected because we didn't want to eat something that we didn't order. She went back to the chef who sent her back out to us to tell us no. Come to find out that the chef is actually the owner. Not once did he come out to try and explain this hidden rule from us or why it's not in the menu. But he sent this poor girl, who it was her first day, back out to explain to us three different times some rule that we're just supposed to magically know. At this point we've been there for probably about 15 to 20 minutes and we're still confused as to whether we're going to get served what we'd like to order. Considering the absolute breakdown in service and management and it was my girlfriend's birthday, we decided we would leave. I asked who was in charge and the sushi chef said him. I asked why he didn't come over and talk to us and explain this rule that's not in their menu and why we can't order what we'd like to order, why he made this girl come out and talk to us three times on her first day, and he just shrugs his shoulders at me as if to say 'oh well. I don't care.' Went back to making sushi and wouldn't look at me. Really rude, condescending bad customer service. Thanks for such an unpleasant experience on my girlfriend's birthday. I wish I could give...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place. My family generally like the food, but perhaps because it's a new restaurant they are still developing their systems and processes? I'm hopeful that it will improve. I ordered the Baiting Ramen which I believe in other Japanese ramen restaurants might be spelled Paitan Ramen. I liked it.
I also ordered albacore nigiri sushi and later ordered tuna nigiri sushi. I like the tuna nigiri Sushi better. What really surprised me was the Mochi ice cream. I've never been served cut up Mochi ice cream. It's kind of like having a single scoop of ice cream cut up into smaller pieces yes, and then being served to you.
I think the problem with their service is a process that they use. The person who takes your order is not the same person who delivers your order. When we ordered more California rolls and a few other dishes, it never really came out until our server came to see if we got it. We told her "No, we did not get it." And she was surprised. So she worked to get that food order out to us. But it took a long time. And she let us know that somehow the order did not go in the first time but that they were working out on it and it would come out as soon as possible.
We were told that the two late items would not be included on our bill because it took a long time. It also took us a long time to get our bill. And we were surprised and disappointed to see that the two items that we were told would not be on our bill were actually on our bill. Because it took so long to get some dishes as well as to simply get the check, we just paid for it all and left. I chalk it up to it just being a new restaurant maybe there's new staff.
I hope it gets better. We like the food enough to want to go back there again. There seems to be a very hard-working and sincere manager trying to make sure...
