A friend recommended this place for a cake for my son's graduation from college. We were serving 30 people so I ordered the sheet cake at $88. It seemed worth it for such a special, once in a life time occasion. I was stunned to see how they messed up the cake due to lack of proper packing. The cake was in a too wide of a box with five inches of empty space on either side (even though we drove slow and was careful to secure the box in the trunk, there was no way to stop the cake from sliding around in the box). Even worse was that they made the cake taller than the box, so all the writing was lifted on to the cover. It needed a topper to hold the cover from the cake or a taller box. I called and asked the supervisor and she was super unhelpful. She said she did her best and it's not her fault. That is the only box they have for the sheet cakes. She assumed zero responsibility even though she admitted the cake didn't fit into the box. Her answer over and over again is this is how they do it. She offered nothing in terms to make it right. I gave her many suggestions but she kept saying it's not her problem. I gave her my info for the owner to call me back, which she didn't. Truly unprofessional and I can't believe this bakery advertises that they do special events: I don't like to harm small businesses but it's been a week and still no follow up. I included pictures to show how they ruined the cake. I gave an extra star because it tasted great, even though we had an embarrassing cake that didn't celebrate my son with the...
Read moreThe Good: the almond croissant is the fresh kind filled with almond paste and it transports me back to my childhood with a single bite. They have a loving dusting of powdered sugar and they are flakey and butter and messy in the most delightful way. One of these alongside a cup of black tea at the Village Farm Gardens up the street in spring may be as close to a storybook breakfast one may get at this time of year.
The BAD: This is not Princess Cake. I do not think this is genoise. It is american white. There is no whipped cream. The thing pretending to be Bavarian cream is not just dense, it has no aeration. It is dyed yellow but does not have the richness of egg yolk. The jam is raspberry. This is acceptable. The royal icing decoration is beautiful. The marzipan's texture is good. I had one bite of this cake, freed the marzipan from the terrible sponge, and proceeded to compost the remains. I am sure there are people who love this cake dearly. I am not one of them. If your childhood princess cake is an airy, melt in your mouth confection that floats upon your dreams, do not buy this cake. If you like very sweet white cake layered with jam, buttercream, and almost-pastry cream and have never eaten fondant and aren't about to start now, you may find this to your...
Read moreMy excellent review disappeared which make me somewhat suspicious of this process. I’ve been going to this bakery for over 10 years or more. It’s an institution in Tucson for excellent French bakery. As far as attitude of Ms. Andrea I have never once experienced a problem with her or the owner (who is always up front in the morning having coffee and availabill to speak with). They are always friendly and courteous. If an item is old tasting or unsatisfactory Andrea gladly exchanges it or refunds your money. My opinion is one that if you have difficulty with someone’s attitude you need to check the way you treat people as well. If you storm in there and demand attention then you’ll be asked to be patient and someone will help you. But treating people rudely never achieves results of which both parties will never be happy. I can’t say enough about how good this bakery is. I’ve eaten pastries and breads from all over Europe and America. I find that Le Baquette excels in baking both breads and sweet pastries. I would recommend highly that you experience the joy of hAving delicious morning delights as well as his breads and cakes. It’s the only place I’ll go here in Tucson. Marlena...
