Urban Pita — Restaurant in Tucson

Love going here!!! As someone with celiac disease, it’s very difficult to actually find truly gluten free options at restaurants. Urban pita does it!! Been in there for take out many times. The guys in the evening will answer questions and help offer gluten free options. The menu has it marked as well. If you choose a non gluten free option, they’ll suggest how to make it gluten free (hey there’s pita with that plate, want that removed?). The other day I was in on a Sunday evening. Kind lady at the counter was great at confirming all the allergy information and clarifying hey, no pita on this, there’s an upcharge for substituting rice instead of hummus, etc. as she was preparing the plates. Got home and there was pita on the gluten free plate. Called them (which it did take about 7 calls before someone finally picked up) and she said oh my gosh! I’m sorry; come back and I’ll start on a new plate right away. Got there and she gave my husband a whole new gluten free plate, and even tried to give us a free something as an apology, but we did not want to take advantage and said just the plate is good. Oh my goodness this place is amazing! The food is cooked perfectly, tastes fresh and outstanding. Everything is so flavorful and looks outstanding. The food presentation is top notch. The seasonings, dressings and sauces that come with the meals is “chef’s kiss! I’ve been here 3 times this week. It’s affordable for what you get and the price. The fries are from real potatoes (go figure)! I went once just for fries… It’s always extremely clean inside and outside. The staff is courteous, professional and attentive. I had questions and all were answered. The gyro, chicken and steak all have their own delicious sauce and seasonings and everything I ordered is just dreamy, mouth-watering, and pure deliciousiness in my mouth! The little cup of whipped butter is insanely delicious and I’ve been dipping everything into it because it lasts and I’m not a bread person either, but I’ve been eating their bread and butter like every time I go. We found Urban Pita from a Google search for Mediterranean food and boy am I glad we gave it a shot! They are in their second week so they are still working on a few things but the food was absolutely fantastic! We ordered a gyro plate and a chicken shawarma plate, one piece of baklava, two fountain sodas and an order of dolmades. Everything tasted so fresh and so light yet the servings were generous as was the flavor! The hummus tasted fresh, the lettuce was crisp, even the garlic sauces and tzatziki were exceptional. Getting there was easy and there's plenty of parking. There's dining inside and outside and it looked pretty easy to pick up orders that were placed over the phone. The two gentlemen that were working were very kind and helpful and got our order out very quickly! It's an excellent spot and I hope it does well. I highly recommend it and look forward to my next visit! I need to try those...
