Akira Sushi & Ramen — Restaurant in Tulsa

I'd say this is the worst Japanese food place I've been to in Tulsa. I got an eel roll and a 2 tonkotsu ramen. The roll was presented pretty sadly, and tasted quite bad, so I just spit it out into a napkin. The ramen was....barely ok. It was just some instant noodles they let cook in the pork broth, with some random bits like snow peas and corn in there. Ok. Not very memorable, and not worth 15 bucks.

I also noticed that the fish being presented looked like it had been sitting on the counter for quite a while. The cooks also weren't wearing hairnets or any sort of precautionary measures against food contamination. Sooo yeah it was kinda gross. I'd recommend going to another booth in Mother Road...

Mother road market food vendors are a hit or miss and this experience was totally a miss.

You're honestly better off at the other ramen joints in town. We got the miso and tonkatsu ramen, a roll of sushi, and "fried rice". Yes! I put that in quotes. You might as well get plain white rice because you most likely won't be able to tell the difference. I mean, I thought it was a joke when I saw it. I even had to ask the girl in front if this was the fried rice and she confirmed. LOL WUT?! Refer to photos for context.

The sushi roll was expensive and got nothing to show for it really.

The ramen was a dud, but edible. The only thing good about it was the pork.

First and last...

Browsing Mother Road Market and Akira caught my eye. Grabbed two rolls to-go (they have specials if you combine two or three rolls) and was pleasantly surprised with the layout when I got them home. For one, I didn’t have to request soy sauce, chopsticks, wasabi, etc as they had thought to include everything. Secondly, flavors of the two rolls were great. I hadn’t had an eel roll in some time and that was the highlight for me. A couple nicks- the spicy tuna roll was pretty plain, literally rice and a wedge of tuna encased in nori. Heat level was non existent. Secondly the actual roll slices were quite thin.
