A lot of local buzz about 1907 Barbecue. Was in the area of Mother Road Market(MRM) so I went to check it out. Parking is notoriously bad for the location but it was only 1130 and was able to secure a place with lots filling up rapidly. Going latter in the day is not an option as many people report them bring out of product by late afternoon.
Ordered the 3 meat plate which comes with 2 sides. Ribs brisket and sausage, Mac and cheese and elote were selected today. Portions were man sized, 2 meat plate would have been enough for me but I wanted to try more stuff. Comes with a slice of white bread. BBQ sauce a thin and slightly sweet type which was ok. Pickle slices and pickled onions (not pictured as they are under the slice of bread)
Pork Ribs. What can I say. You get 2 ribs. It has a nice bark on the outside. Well seasoned. Smoke ring. Fall off the bone. They check all the boxes required for a 5 star rating for BBQ. These are seriously good ribs, not the best in the world but very good.
Brisket. 2 extra thick slices meat. I ordered the fatty brisket but the leaner cut is also available. Well seasoned, bark and smoke ring. Again nicely done. Very tasty.
Sausage. Hmm here there were some issues. The sausage was good. But some bites were very very spicy. I would not feed this to young children and cannot recommend this to people who don't like some heat in their food. The sausage is not uniformly seasoned like a store bought factory produced package. My main problem was the heat began to deaden my taste buds and started affecting the ability to enjoy the flavors of the rest of my the meal.
Elote. Thank God for the elote. The creaminess of the cheese and corn was a salve on my tongue and saved the meal from the heat of the sausage. It was good but not quite as good as what you would get from a Mexican store. If you have never tried it, this is a good example.
Mac and cheese. From what I understand this is a popular item so I gave it a try. Pretty good but I didn't think it was anything really special. The Macaroni was well cooked and the sauce was a smooth creamy consistency. Mild cheesy flavor. Oh the Mac was also a long curly variety.
Five star lunch overall. BBQ lovers need to give it a try. Also other thoughts. MRM is a pretty hip place to go. Hipsters, trendy dressers, business casual, I felt like a hobo there in jeans and long sleeve t shirt. Come a little dressed up if you feel the need to fit in. Great place to do...
Read moreI really enjoy mother road market. I forgot to take photos of the building so I apologize about that. I got a cheesesteak sandwich from the metropolis stand. They forgot my peppers and onions so I had to go back up and ask for those but they did make them for me so I was glad about that. I have tried several places inside here before but never metropolis and I have to say they have a good sandwich. Mine was beef and cheese whiz and it did not disappoint. I’ve never been to Philly but I’ve had other good cheesesteaks and this was up there towards the better ones I’ve had. This place is a great stop if you’re in Tulsa. There is parking available in the back near the building but it’s not a lot so you may end up having to park down the road in some overflow parking, it’s still pretty close and easy to walk over. There is atleast 10 different restaurants to choose from and it’s similar to a food court in a mall. You order from wherever and they give you a buzzer to hold until your food is done. Once it goes off, you go grab your food and you can sit indoors or go outside and sit. The outdoor seating has a lot of room and it’s under a roof to protect from the sun and weather, but a lot of people were out there and many kids playing so it got loud. Just expect it to be busy and loud both inside and outside. There is food options here for just about every type of person. There is also a gift shop for souvenirs, ice cream stand for dessert and some made in Oklahoma goods to look at as well. You can also find t-shirts and other items here as well. It’s a new place located on Route 66 but it fits right in with the city and gives Tulsa yet another fun attraction. Make this a stop if you’re traveling to Tulsa, driving Route 66 or even if...
Read moreMy son and I went to the market today for Pride. It’s always a fun adventure. That’s why I hate to give this review about We Want the Smoke in the Pop-up 66 kitchen where new food makers can share their food - and service. We ate at a yummy Mexican place but I decided to get a bbq sandwich to take home to my husband from WWTS. I ordered it while we ate. After about 15 mins I went to check on it. There was no line and six people standing around talking and one guy slowly chopping meat. The order lady just kept saying @I will call you when it’s ready.” I said I’ll just wait. Finally they gave me the sandwich and then the guy chopping meat said you only ordered 8 minutes ago now BYE! With that the entire crew turned around and started yelling BYE! BYE! BYE! BYE! BYE! It was so surprising and embarrassing. Other customers walking by turned around and watched them yelling at me. I don’t think I’ve had another experience like that anywhere. I told my son it had at least better be good. Unfortunately my husband said it was meh. This food maker had a real opportunity to shine today but that certainly showed they don’t value customers and have bad customer service. The rest of the cafes have always been great and I support the whole concept of a food maker incubator. But that was uncalled for. My advice is to just keep walking if you see them and buy food from folks who appreciate their customers. There’s better...
