It’s been about 6 months since we last had Brownies. We tried to go to this restaurant for breakfast this morning. Immediately upon entering, the waitress seemed overwhelmed. Large group at the back of the restaurant, almost every table had guests. There were a few dirty tables throughout. She wiped our table when we sat down and took our drink order. The Pepsi she brought me was flat. I remembered this happening the last time we were here, which was probably one of the reasons we haven’t been back in awhile, because even then it felt like it wasn’t as good as it used to be. I told the waitress and asked for water instead. Another customer mentioned their flat root beer and the waitress said their CO2 was broken, which is unfortunate for a restaurant that heavily advertises their root beer. We sat and waited for our food, watching as the cook slowly made the food, utilizing the microwave a lot, more than I’d expect for fresh cooked food. The waitress was working tirelessly, trying to greet customers, take orders, deliver food, and bus tables. I don’t know if someone called in (it doesn’t sound like it since other recent reviews have pointed out that she was the only one there), but if the owner has decided that staffing with one waitress and no other staff on a weekend breakfast service is a cost savings they need, the quality of the service is suffering and it makes people leave and not come back, so they might want to rethink what’s actually going to be profitable. Nuked food is not enough to bring people back. We left without getting our food and went to Village Inn, where the owner believes in actually staffing...
Read moreWhen I went in the middle of the afternoon, the place was pretty packed. Granted, it's not a large restaurant, so not a lot of people can fit in it to begin with. Overall, I had a good experience here. I really enjoyed the burger I got (the Theta Burger). Although the fries were a bit lackluster (a little greasy, not crisp, and not salted), the burger definitely made up for it. The service was a mix, as while we didn't see a lot of our waitress during our visit (and therefore had to flag her down for a water refill), the food came out at a pretty quick pace considering it all looked and tasted freshly made. I did not try their desserts or root beer, but I would go back if I'm in the area to try these. The men's bathroom was clean considering the state of the building, which is obviously in decline.
I don't recommend this for larger groups (6+), as there isn't really a ton of space, but if you have a party of five or less, you can make it work, though you may have to wait a little to get a table if it's a busier time of day. If you're a solo eater or on a date, it's a great option in the area for reasonably priced food that will fill you up...
Read moreThe cafe is a very small place, with a dozen or so bar stools and a half dozen or so tables & booths. I believe I saw a sign stating the maximum occupancy is 49. However, it has a nice, warm, cozy atmosphere, with the grill right there behind the cash register. They have a limited menu: basically several choices of burgers, sides and drinks. They serve a homemade Root Beer that is absolutely delicious! It tastes sweet and creamy, almost like a Cream Soda. The cooks are fast and efficient and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. We came in right after a large party had just placed their order, so there was a noticible delay in our taking our order, bringing our food, and ringing up our purchase. The cook was getting the burgers out as fast as he could; and the other 3 ladies danced between the roles of waitress, hostess, busser, sous-chef, and expeditor, as well as manning the cash register and taking call-in orders. Considering there were only 4 employees taking care of a couple dozen (or more) hungry patrons, I think they did a great job. We will...
