This was a very interesting in-person experience for a Saturday night, and after reflecting on the entire night (and a second order for delivery to my home this evening), the Tulsa location is solidly four stars.
In-person, I was a solo guest - at first, I was told that there was no seating available until 8:15 PM, and the second hostess jumped in and informed me that because I was a party of (1), I could sit at an empty high top at the bar and order from the entire menu. I had initially planned on a to-go order, but knowing I could indulge at the high top decided to stay. A fifteen-minute wait passed before I was introduced to my waiter, and after I was served my drink from the bar, I sat for an hour waiting for the main meal and went through (5) goblets of water. At the 70-minute mark, I hailed a server down and asked for my order to be boxed to go, and it was another 25 minutes before my bill was settled and I was able to leave. Dropping $160.00 (including a 10% takeout tip) on a cold boxed meal for one... was a lot. However: the bread pudding redeemed the situation. Once at home, I had a good laugh about how the entire night was deemed acceptable because of the bread pudding, and tonight I ordered two servings of the dessert for delivery via GrubHub to make sure the dessert was as good as I remembered just 96 hours ago. I've had much better steaks and food, but I am admittedly accustomed to fine dining experiences. Personally, I wouldn't dine at this location in person again unless I was able to experience the main dining room on a weeknight when the (excellent) staff isn't stressed or worried about kitchen delays during a weekend rush. I will, however, definitely treat myself to a takeout bread pudding on occasion in the future.
For Tulsa? It's a nice chain, but you can do much better with local upscale options. If you're not accustomed to fine-ish dining experiences, Ruth's Chris may not be the place for you: make sure to check the dress code, although at the Tulsa location, from what I could observe they are accustomed to serving a much more casual guest, because there were plenty of ball caps worn by guests. Hearty appetite? Be prepared to spend at least $150.00 per person for an appetizer, entree and side, salad, dessert, and one...
Read moreThe more I think about how my evening was handled, the worse I feel. It was my birthday and staying at the hotel for a couple of days. Made reservations two weeks in advance, had to wait to be seated as people not dressed for what I was told was a “fine dining establishment” were seated without reservations, in front of us, Finally taken to our table … great view, nice service, but extremely spotty. It felt like we were the “ after thought” the entire time. At the end of the meal all of our food that was left was quickly boxed up and presented to us with a “thank you for dining with us “. We looked at each other and left aft waiting for several minutes for our server to present us with a bill. I figured sinc we were staying at the hotel that they put it on our room since no one came back so we left.after changing clothes and going back to the casino floor to play for a bit I noticed that I was getting “eyeballed” by a woman and a security officer. Nothing was being directly said to me but whispers between the two while looking at me. I finally went up to them directly and asked if there was a problem. Mind you … with my name being Karen already, it doesn’t help for me to be confrontational at all, but THIS I did not understand. The security officer was taken off guard and said that we had walked out on the tan and they needed to finalize it. I told them my room number and then he asked if I was going to leave my server a tip. I stated I would give her 20%. A bit concerned that I would not be charged correctly we went to the restaurant immediately asking what what was the issue and wanting to see a manager. We’re told that we were being aggressive and to leave. It was the most humiliating, uncomfortable and flat out horrible experience I have had with n a fine dining establishment ever. It was embarrassing and definitely humiliating especially for not only my first and only experience but as my birthday dinner, it...
Read moreWe having been going to Ruth's for over 7 years, mostly to celebrate a special occasion or have a date night. They have always had 5 star service and food in the past. Last night was an exception. The hostess was friendly, the waiter seemed good to start and we ordered drinks, appetizer and meal as normal. We had the appetizer and then waited a long time, wondering why our salads were talking so long. After about 30 minutes, a young lady showed up with our steaks, much to our surprise. We told her we had not had our salads, she seemed a bit confused then said she would go talk to our waiter, Ira. About 10 minutes later, Ira, showed up with a couple of salads and said the kitchen had lost some tickets and that was the reason for the steaks coming out before the salads. I noted that he did not offer any apology. After we finished our salads, our meal finally arrived. It was obvious that they simply reheated our filets as both were severely overcooked. We ordered medium rare and got one medium well and the other was completely well done. One server asked how our food was and we told her the steaks were overcooked and the creamed spinach was very watery in consistency. She simply said, "oh" and walked away. Finally, the sides they brought out were incorrect, but the bill was correct.
The bottom line is that Ruth's is an upscale restaurant with upscale prices and should be consistent in with 5 star service. Last night was very disappointing as their service was subpar at best. Our waiter/server was indifferent, no one apologized or made any attempt to correct the issue and the manager, who was in the dining room disappeared. Ruth's has an outstanding steak (never had an overcooked filet that was as tender the one I ate last night).
But there are a number of high end steak houses in Tulsa with much better service than we experienced last night and I seriously doubt we will be returning to...
